Kia Center
Orlando, Florida
As the opening video package ends, pyro explodes on the stage as the crowd in Orlando, Florida is erupting in cheers. The cameras pan through the crowd, showing off various signs reading things like “Assassinate the Barbie”, “If Sami Loses, We Riot!”, “Orlando is Diesel Powered!” and more. After doing a pan of the Kia Center, the cameras settle in on the commentary table where we see the team of Michael Cole and Wade Barrett.
MICHAEL COLE: Welcome, everyone, to Backlash! Tonight, we’ve got a sold out crowd and the WWE Universe is ready for some action, Wade!
WADE BARRETT: They’ll get more than enough of it here tonight, Cole! We’ve got more than our fair share of bad blood brewing between superstars tonight and it’s only more moments before we get to see some of these issues resolved once and for all!
MICHAEL COLE: I can’t wait to see what happens in the WWE Tag Team Championship match tonight. The Young Bucks and The Best Tag Team In The World have staked their claims for victory and tonight, we’ll find out who the better men really are.
WADE BARRETT: I’m honestly surprised those two teams haven’t torn each other apart by now, Cole. The self-proclaimed EVPs have been politicking for a shot at the gold for quite some time.
MICHAEL COLE: Zayn is also getting a chance to prove himself here tonight, he wants to make that Intercontinental Championship mean something. He’s been saying for weeks that he doesn’t think Logan Paul is the right man for the job.
WADE BARRETT: Logan didn’t need to say anything though, he let his actions speak for himself like a true champion by taking Sami down a peg. Those two are going to create lightning in this ring and hopefully Triple H, our boss, can stop them from going too far.
MICHAEL COLE: Well I certainly hope Triple H doesn’t come out the worse for wear, that could mean trouble for all of us. Being the special guest referee can be a dangerous job, but if anybody can fill the role, it’s definitely The Game.
WADE BARRETT: I’ll tell you who else can handle themselves, is Becky Lynch. The Man has no qualms about challenging Stephanie McMahon lately and she’s certainly not made a friend because she’ll have to defend her Women’s Intercontinental Championship in a No Disqualification Match against Chelsea Green, Stephanie’s best friend.
MICHAEL COLE: Speaking of women who clearly know what they want, Tiffany Stratton is aiming for the stratosphere. She’s really aimed high with this opportunity against Serena Deeb for the WWE Women’s Championship. Our Women’s Champion, however, doesn’t seem the slightest bit impressed with what she’s offered so far.
WADE BARRETT: Serena Deeb is called The Assassin for a reason, she’ll pick you apart limb by limb. If I’m Tiffany Stratton, I’m hoping that I’ve at least put enough of a chip in the confidence to disturb the ego enough to have a shot. Don’t cut Tiffany short though, Cole, she’s craftier than people give her credit for. She didn’t make it to this stage of the game without doing what it takes to make an impact.
MICHAEL COLE: We’ll also have to see later on tonight how much of an impact Diesel can make in his match against Swerve Strickland. The WWE Championship is on the line and Swerve has a vice-like grip on it. He doesn’t want to let that thing go, he’s adamant that he’s going to be our forever champion.
WADE BARRETT: If Diesel has anything to do with it, that’s not going to be the case. This week he’s been schmoozing around town and making it known that he’s only a Big Boot and a Jackknife away from victory. I have to say, I’m a little concerned with Strickland’s chances even with as brutal as that man can be. Will he have enough to chop down an actual giant to cement his place as the future of the WWE and remain champion?
Suddenly, “King of Kings” by Motörhead hit the P/A system of the arena as Stephanie McMahon and Triple H make their entrance to the top of the stage, holding hands as they grin at the live audience and those watching at home, clearly enjoying the view of the packed Kia Center.
Marching their way down to the ring, Triple H helps Stephanie up the stairs and along the apron before sitting on the center rope to allow her easier access into the ring and follows suit behind her. A ringside attendant hands off a pair of microphones as Triple H hands one to his lovely wife and brings his own to his mouth to speak as “King of Kings” fades out and the cheers from the crowd die down.
TRIPLE H: The WWE has arrived in Orlando, Florida!
A cheap pop from the crowd brings a smile to both Co-Owner’s faces as they stand in the center of the ring.
TRIPLE H: Tonight marks the second of our Premium Live Events, another chance for us to etch ourselves into the history books as the place to go for all of your professional wrestling needs! Orlando, we’re going to need your help in order to make this another night for the record books! Each of you in the crowd and watching at home has the opportunity to truly make this another night that nobody will forget. Along with our superstars that will be competing in this ring, you can be the history makers for this company! If you see something you like, cheer, if you see something you hate boo, if you want more of something be vocal about it because every single one of us is here to entertain and amaze you with our abilities but you all play a large role in making sure we do that just the way you like!
Stephanie puts a hand on Triple H’s shoulder as he looks over to her.
STEPHANIE MCMAHON: My husband is right, we can only steer the ship in the right direction. When it comes to the actual content, it’s up to each and every one of you to make these moments that happen be etched into the history books of the WWE. Tonight, we’re giving all of you the opportunity to once again show the world that we’re the best wrestling product available and there’s a reason you bought those tickets and sit in those seats you’re in right now!
The crowd cheers for the Co-Owners as they both smile at one another and then nod in approval at the sound of the crowd.
TRIPLE H: Now we both know that you all can be loud, but just how loud can you get? Because if it were up to Stephanie and I, we’d love to see you guys blow the roof off of the Kia Center with just how loud you can get! If you’ll all indulge us for a moment, we’d like to see right now just how loud you can get!
The fans cheer even louder now as both Triple H and Stephanie chuckle for a moment, Triple H uses a finger to clear out his ear for a moment before shaking his head.
TRIPLE H: I don’t know about you, Steph, but I think they can get pretty loud, what do you think?
STEPHANIE MCMAHON: Well, if I’m going to be honest, Hunter, I thought that Orlando would be a little louder. I mean, we’ve been out at night and these clubs in Orlando are so colorful and vibrant, they bring you to life. I’m not sure we have the right crowd of people here tonight, maybe they just haven’t woken up from their hangovers from last night though?
Stephanie has that mischievous smirk on her face as it’s obvious she’s leading the crowd into cheering louder, Triple H is just chuckling as he tries to compose himself.
TRIPLE H: Well, you heard her Orlando, she doesn’t quite think you’re loud enough. I believe you guys are capable of really doing this though, so I only have one question for all of you…are you ready?
The crowd is practically deafening as they cheer this time for Triple H and Stephanie but he climbs the turnbuckle as he points out at the crowd with his face growing red as he practically growls the question out this time.
TRIPLE H: NOO! I SAID! ARE…YOU…REEEAAADYYY!?!?
The crowd are going absolutely wild with cheers now as they pop for the question. Stephanie is laughing now as they’ve riled the crowd up to this point and it’s clear they are ready to enjoy Backlash at this point.
STEPHANIE MCMAHON: Then without further ado, we present to you…Backlash!
As “King of Kings” begins to play once again, Triple H and Stephanie give each other a quick peck of a kiss before he moves the ropes and once again holds them open for her, she waits for him as he comes through and hops down to the ground before helping her down the stairs and they head up the ramp towards the back.
MICHAEL COLE: Never shy about opening up the live events for these crowds, are they Wade?
WADE BARRETT: Stephanie and Triple H are always happy to see the fans in attendance, especially with a packed crowd like the one we have tonight, Cole.
MICHAEL COLE: They sure are, and now it’s time for our first match of the night! We’re starting off with some real animosity between two teams tonight for the WWE Tag Team Championships.
WADE BARRETT: The challengers have been very vocal about their displeasure of what happened at Night of Champions, they certainly wanted another opportunity and tonight they’ll get it.
MICHAEL COLE: Folks, the tag team titles will be on the line here between two teams that genuinely do not like one another.
WADE BARRETT: The Young Bucks think the Authors of Pain were a third wheel at Night of Champions that cost them the title.
MICHAEL COLE: They think that they can beat The Best Tag Team in the World in a one-on-one contest.
WADE BARRETT: We are about to find out!
”Superkick Party” hits the speakers and the crowd begins to boo as The Young Bucks walk to the top of the ramp. Wearing silk robes this evening, the brothers look focused as they look out at the crowd and shake their heads at the disrespect before making their way down to the ramp, foregoing their usual posing and confetti.
SAMANTHA IRVIN: The following tag team contest is scheduled for one fall, and it is for the WWE Tag Team Championships! Introducing the challengers, at a combined weight of 350 pounds, from Rancho Cucamonga, California…Nick and Matt Jackson, The Yooounnng Buuucks!
WADE BARRETT: This crowd is absolutely heated at these two men, Cole! I have not heard boos this loud since you were introduced before the start of the show!
MICHAEL COLE: Be that as it may, the boos are certainly loud. These fans are not showing Nick and Matt Jackson any love. And can you really blame them? They’ve been rather outspoken about the fans recently.
WADE BARRETT: Did you hear what they’ve been saying though? To borrow a line from someone else, stop them when they’re telling lies.
The Young Bucks get to the bottom of the ramp, and they go up the steel steps, Nick first with Matt close behind. They enter the ring and go to the center, raising their arms in the air as the crowd continues to rain boos down upon them. Lowering their arms, they begin to slap each other on the shoulders to pump each other up and as their music fades out, they turn their attention to the entryway. “Cult of Personality” begins to play now, and the crowd is going wild with cheers as the WWE Tag Team Champions come out to the top of the ramp. Looking out at the crowd with huge smiles, CM Punk and Stevie Richards turn and look at one another and give each other a high five before making their way down to the ring.
SAMANTHA IRVIN: And their opponents, at a combined weight of four hundred and forty-eight pounds. Hailing from Chicago, Illinois and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the team of Stevie Richards and CM Punk, The WWE Tag Team Champions, The Best Taaag Teeeam in the Wooorld!
MICHAEL COLE: Alternatively, Wade, these fans absolutely love the team of Stevie Richards and CM Punk!
WADE BARRETT: They certainly do, Cole. I haven’t heard cheers this loud since I was introduced before the start of the show.
MICHAEL COLE: Really? Going to try that joke again?
WADE BARRETT: What joke, Cole?
Punk and Richards get to the bottom of the ramp, both eyeing up The Young Bucks before hopping up onto the ring apron. Entering the ring together, CM Punk walks to one corner while Stevie Richards walks to the other, and they get up on the second turnbuckle and raise their respective championships in the air as the crowd continues to cheer. After a moment, the Tag Team Champions get back down to the mat and hand their titles off to the referee, who raises them in the air before handing them off to Samantha Irvin as “Cult of Personality” begins to fade out.
MICHAEL COLE: This should be an absolutely electric contest between these two teams though. The fans are already worked up into a fever pitch here. Orlando has come alive for this one.
TAG TEAM MATCH
Nick and Matt Jackson are in the ring and take off their robes they had on for their entrance. Nick gives his to the ringside crewman waiting for it but Matt takes his and throws it out into the crowd! A man in the first few rows catches it as the action is booed loudly. The man who caught the robe throws it back in the ring and the crowd cheers wildly! Matt seems annoyed by this and grabs the robe off the mat again and walks to the other side of the ring, throwing his robe out into the crowd once again to a chorus of boos. Punk walks over towards the ropes on the side of the ring where the robe was thrown into the crowd and motions for the person to throw it back into the ring and they do so. The robe comes flying back and lands in the ring to a chorus of cheers now as the fans are going wild at the Young Bucks having their robe thrown back at them. Matt Jackson looks angry now, picking up the robe and just handing it to the ringside crew. He flips off the Orlando crowd and they boo louder than they’ve booed all night now. The sound almost drowning out the commentary and your ability to think. Stevie motions for the crowd to get even louder if possible and the boos continue to rain in on Nick and Matt Jackson. Punk and Stevie hand the tag team title to the referee who displays them to the hard camera before handing them to the ringside crew as well. The referee checks the boots of both teams and motions for one person on each team to step out of the ring. Nick Jackson and Stevie Richards get set to get this one started as the referee calls for the bell and this one is officially underway.
MICHAEL COLE: This crowd is wound up tight and I love it, Wade.
WADE BARRETT: They’re firmly in the corner of Stevie and Punk. We’ll see if they backed the right team.
MICHAEL COLE: It’s the Young Bucks and The Best Tag Team in the World for the tag team titles!
WADE BARRETT: Let’s get this one started!
Nick and Stevie circle one another in the ring, measuring each other up before going in for a lock up. As they approach one another and go for the collar and elbow, Nick pokes Stevie in the eyes immediately and blinds him. This only enrages the fans even more. Nick clubs Stevie in the back as he continues to rub his eyes and try to get his vision back fully. Nick hoists him up from behind and drops him with a back body drop. Nick keeps the attack on with some stomps to the downed Richards. Nick pulls Stevie back up to his feet now and towards his corner, tagging his brother Matt into the match. They both grab Stevie around the head and hoist him up and over, dropping him with a tag team suplex. Matt stays on the attack now as the Young Bucks are firmly in control of this one early on. Matt ducks his head under Stevie’s arm and hoists him up and over for a Northern Lights suplex! Matt bridges it, keeping it locked in as he flips over and lands on his feet, hoisting Stevie up again for another Northern Lights suplex and keeping it locked in again, flipping over and doing it for a third time! Matt keeps it bridged fully now without a flip, a pinning predicament. 1….2…No! Stevie gets a shoulder up and the crowd cheers loudly at that. Stevie is trying to scramble back to his feet, but Matt just stays on the attack, driving repeated kicks into Stevie’s midsection. Richards reaches out towards Punk, but Matt drags him back to the Bucks’ corner, tagging Nick back into the match.
MICHAEL COLE: Young Bucks showing some unsurprisingly great tag team action here early on.
WADE BARRETT: Got the ring cut in half and they’re keeping Richards isolated. That’s vintage tag team wrestling right there.
Nick comes in while Matt holds onto Stevie’s leg. Nick Jackson drops an elbow drop right across the downed Stevie’s chest. Nick quickly pulls Stevie back up to his feet, whipping him into a neutral corner. Right as Stevie’s back hits the corner turnbuckles, Nick Jackson is there with a big-time clothesline! Stevie comes stumbling out of the corner as Nick bounces off the ropes behind him, grabbing Richards around the head and driving it into the mat with a bulldog! Nick goes for the pin again! 1…2...No! Again, Stevie gets a shoulder up. Nick tries to stay on the attack, but Richards sweeps Jackson’s leg out from under him, taking him down to the mat. Nick scrambles back to his feet but right by the time he gets to his feet, Stevie has rolled over and tagged in CM Punk to loud cheers! Punk comes into the match as a house of fire, drilling Nick Jackson with a stiff right hand and then another and another. Matt comes rushing into the ring and goes for a clothesline but Punk ducks under it, grabbing Matt as he goes by around the head and falling back, driving Matt into the mat with a neckbreaker! Matt rolls out of the ring as Nick climbs back up to his feet only to be met by CM Punk and a kick right to the midsection, doubling Nick over. Punk pulls the bent over Nick in and looks to be setting him up for a piledriver! Nick doesn’t go up so easily though and lifts Punk up and over, dropping him with a back body drop. Nick goes to make a tag, but Matt is still on the outside of the ring, grabbing at his neck after the neckbreaker.
WADE BARRETT: Nick wants to tag out, but Matt isn’t there!
MICHAEL COLE: Punk took him down and now Nick has no one to tag. Smart move there from the champs!
Nick looks down and is yelling at Matt to get up off the mat but it’s too late, Punk grabs Nick from behind, pulling him back towards the middle of the ring and dropping him with a reverse DDT! Punk goes for the pin! 1…2…No! Nick gets a shoulder up! Punk wastes no time, pulling Nick up to his feet and hoisting him up onto his shoulders! The crowd comes alive again and is cheering loudly as Punk is looking for the GTS! Nick is aware and drives his knee into the side of Punk’s head a few times before the champion has to drop Nick back down to the mat. Nick crawls over and tags Matt into the match again as he’s back up on the apron. Matt comes running in, but Punk is ready, taking him up and over with a hip toss! Matt is back up quickly though, but Punk is ready for him. A right and then another right, Matt Jackson is reeling now. Punk bounces back off the ropes and throws himself at Matt with a flying shoulder tackle. Matt goes down to the mat, rolling under the bottom rope and lying on the apron. Punk is back up to his feet quickly as Matt uses the ropes to pull himself back to his feet. Punk steps through the ropes and joins Matt on the apron. Punk looks out at the crowd and smirks as he ducks Matt’s head down and looks for a piledriver on the apron! The crowd almost gasps at the idea of it but again, Punk can’t get Matt up for it and Matt hoists him up and over, Punk’s back smacking into the mat with a back bodydrop. Matt falls to his knees as Punk grabs at his back. Matt and Punk are both slow to get back to their feet, almost getting up at the same time. Punk has his back to Matt and as he turns towards him, he’s immediately met with a SUPERKICK from Matt! Punk falls to a heap on the apron and to the floor. Matt falls to the apron himself as both men are down!
WADE BARRETT: Superkick from out of nowhere!
MICHAEL COLE: No one saw that one coming! Especially Punk!
Matt rolls back into the ring and motions for the ref to start counting Punk out. The referee starts the count, and it would seem that during the count, Matt realizes that the titles can’t and won’t change hands on said countout. At the referee’s count of six, Matt rolls back out of the ring and grabs Punk, pulling him up to his feet and rolls him back into the ring. The referee’s count gets to eight and Matt rolls back in after him. Matt stands up and goes to pick up Punk, but CM Punk rolls him up into a small package pin! 1…2…3! No! Jackson barely gets out of it! Both men are back up to their feet and Punk reaches out, tagging Stevie back into the match. Richards steps through the ropes and as he gets into the ring, he’s drilled with a SUPERKICK! Right on the chin! Richards falls to the mat and Matt Jackson goes for the pin! 1…2…NO! Somehow Richards got a shoulder up. Matt Jackson seemingly can’t believe it as Stevie rolls near the ropes, grabbing at his jaw. Matt smacks his hands together three times quickly, but the referee holds up two fingers. Matt gets back up to his feet, grabbing Stevie by the hair and pulling him up. Matt is looking for another Northern Lights suplex, but Richards shoves himself forward, ramming Matt into the neutral corner. Stevie backs up into the opposite corner, taking off and nailing Matt Jackson with a huge corner splash. Matt lands in a heap on the mat as Stevie climbs up to the top rope. He takes flight and drills Matt Jackson with a top rope leg drop! It’s gotta be over! He goes for the pin! 1…2….3! Yes! NO! Matt Jackson got his foot on the ropes! The referee sees it after the three count was made and immediately points over to it!
WADE BARRETT: Oh my goodness, Cole! This one was over!
MICHAEL COLE: Matt Jackson got his foot on the ropes! The referee barely saw it in time! He made the three count and saw the foot right after!
Stevie can’t believe it and this crowd can’t believe it. They boo the ref loudly, but he holds up two fingers. Stevie knows he has to stay on the attack though and goes back to Matt, pulling him up to his feet but as he does, Matt grabs Stevie’s trunks and pulls him through the ropes and onto the apron. Matt uses the ropes to pull himself up and tries to grab Richards. Stevie drives a headbutt into Matt though, knocking him back. Stevie hoists himself up and over the top rope with a flying missile shoulder block towards Matt Jackson, but Matt ducks and Stevie takes out the referee! The ref goes tumbling to the mat and under the bottom rope to the outside! The crowd gasps as this happens!
MICHAEL COLE: The referee has been knocked out!
WADE BARRETT: That’s not good!
Stevie stands up and goes over to the ropes to check on the referee down below. Matt comes rushing in with a double axe handle, but Stevie sees it coming and moves out of the way! Matt goes flying by and runs into the ropes. Stevie grabs him from behind and hoists him up and over with a German suplex! He can’t go for a pin though! CM Punk hops off the apron and heads around the ring quickly to the downed referee! He’s trying to get him back up to his feet. Stevie stands up again and walks over to the ropes, checking in with his partner on the downed ref. Punk is grabbed from behind by Nick Jackson though! Nick is also down off the apron as he grabs Punk from behind and spins him around, ramming him into the ringside barricade! Richards goes to step through the ropes, but he’s grabbed from behind by Matt Jackson and spun back around. Stevie ducks a big punch attempt and again headbutts Matt Jackson, staggering him back. Richards takes one step back, turns to his side and drives forward, drilling Matt Jackson with a STEVIE KICK right on the chin! Matt is down and Stevie collapses on him for a pinfall! He realizes after a second that the referee is still knocked out though. Richards is back up to his feet, turning his attention to the downed ref again but right as he gets to his feet, Richards is blindsided with a shot right to the face with the tag team championship belt from Nick Jackson! Stevie Richards has been BUSTED OPEN from that shot from the tag team title! Richards rolls out of the ring and to the floor! Nick Jackson rolls out of the ring and grabs CM Punk, rolling him back into the ring. Nick pulls Matt up to his feet, still nursing the effects from that Stevie Kick. Matt and Nick each grab an arm of CM Punk and step back, rushing forward and driving their knees into CM Punk’s head with an EVP TRIGGER! Punk lands in a heap on the mat as Nick Jackson makes the pin. A referee comes sprinting down the ramp and slides into the ring. 1…2….3! It’s over!
WINNER
THE YOUNG BUCKS
9:18 via PINFALL
WADE BARRETT: The Young Bucks have done it!
MICHAEL COLE: Who was that second referee that came down the ramp!? I’ve never seen him before!
WADE BARRETT: Maybe he’s new, Cole! We can’t be expected to know every referee, stage hand and ringside crew member by name!
MICHAEL COLE: The Young Bucks drill Stevie Richards with the tag team title and roll Punk into the ring for an EVP Trigger…Wade, Punk wasn’t even the legal man! Hell, Nick Jackson wasn’t the legal man!
WADE BARRETT: You’re getting lost in the weeds here, Cole! What’s done is done!
SAMANTHA IRVIN: Here are your winners, and the NEEEW WWE Tag Team Champions…THE YOOOUNNNG BUUUCKS!
WADE BARRETT: That’s as official as you can get!
The fans are downright furious now as the referee who came running down the ramp holds up Nick and Matt Jackson’s hands in victory. The belts are handed to them and Matt falls to his knees, looking like he’s about to cry as Nick jumps up on the turnbuckle, holding the title up towards the crowd.
Trash starts raining into the ring as the referee hightails it to the back. Empty cups and cans start littering the ring as the Jackson brothers hold up the titles triumphantly.
MICHAEL COLE: This makes me sick to my stomach, Wade.
WADE BARRETT: This crowd needs to grow up a bit and show some respect!
MICHAEL COLE: They won after hitting the champions with the titles and pinning the illegal man!
WADE BARRETT: I’ll say it again, what’s done is done, Cole! You don’t have to like it, but you have to accept it!
Giving each other a hug, The Young Bucks exit the ring and make their way up the ramp, continuing to hold the WWE Tag Team Championships high in the air. Stevie Richards has stumbled back to his feet and slides into the ring, crawling over to CM Punk who is starting to stir and gingerly helps him up to a seated position. The now former champions share a disappointed look between them as they look up towards the ramp to see The Young Bucks still celebrating with the titles at the top of the ramp before turning to head to the back. Shaking their heads, Stevie helps Punk to his feet and the crowd now begins to applaud the efforts of The Best Tag Team in the World as they exit the ring and gingerly get down to the floor, walking up the ramp to the back, slapping outstretched hands of the fans in the front row along the way.
As “Superkick Party” continues to play, the camera switches to a shot of Shun Yamaguchi and Funaki at the Japanese commentary table. Though perhaps meant to show off the international reach of WWE or that the whole world is watching Backlash, it’s something else that catches the attention of the WWE universe. As the two debrief from the preceding match, the door to their suite opens up to show the executive level hallway beyond. A beat later Momo Watanabe strolls in, long sleeved Black Peach t-shirt over her ring gear and a black baseball bat balanced on her shoulders.
She looks around as if she’s lost for a bit before locking eyes on the commentary team. As she strides up to them there’s a pop from the sections of the crowd familiar with her. Yamaguchi and Funaki exchange confused looks with each other before turning to watch Momo as well. A beat later Momo’s at the table, pulling a chair up to take a seat between the two men. She says nothing, seemingly more interested in the upcoming action. Finally Funaki breaks the awkward silence.
FUNAKI: <Watanabe-san! This is a highly unexpected turn of events. Welcome to WWE!>
Momo looks over at him slowly, her head tilted in curiosity.
MOMO WATANABE: <Oh. Thanks. I appreciate it.>
She says nothing else, seemingly intent on just hanging out with the commentary team. Funaki shoots a glance to Yamaguchi before offering a slight smile at the absurdity he’s found himself in.
FUNAKI: <What - what brings you here tonight?>
MOMO WATANABE: <What’s it look like? I’m here to enjoy Backlash like everyone else in this arena. Is there something wrong with that?>
She raises an eyebrow, challenging the commentator to think of a reason.
FUNAKI: <Of course not! We just didn’t expect you to be joining us here.>
MOMO WATANABE: <I’m full of surprises, Funaki-san. But if you’re thinking I didn’t just come all the way up here to spend time with the best color commentary team in the business->
Momo looks from one to the other and back to Funaki.
MOMO WATANABE: <You’re right. I need a favor. There’s an important message I need to send and I figured you could help me out. You good to translate?>
Funaki’s eyes widen in surprise but he’s quick to offer a nod of affirmation. Momo nods in return and looks right down the camera.
MOMO WATANABE: <I’m new around here so I’m gonna be watching all of the action really damn close. No detail is gonna escape me. You see, I’m taking notes of the women I’ll be going up against starting next Monday and making plans on how to break them down. All of them can get in my way of getting to the title, so I’ve got to be ready to kick the assess of the entire division. Even Becky-san and Chelsea-san, since maybe the boss will throw me into the mix for the Intercontinental Championship instead of where I know I belong.>
She pauses to allow Funaki to translate for her, her eyes full of fire as the gears in her head hit 100 miles per hour.
MOMO WATANABE: <But most importantly - TIffany-san, Serena-san, I’m watching you. One of you is walking out with that belt tonight. One of you’s gonna be the world champion and that means that you’re my target. When you walk out on Raw with that belt around your waist and you’re taking in what it means to be on top, remind yourself that it won’t last forever.>
Momo cracks a very slight smile.
MOMO WATANABE: <Because the Black Heart Momo Watanabe is coming to take the greatest prize in pro wrestling no matter who’s got it. And holding it means you’re in for a world of hurt when I get to you. Enjoy your moment in the spotlight, then get ready for war.>
Momo leans back in her seat and grins.
MOMO WATANABE: <I’ll be waiting.>
An awkward silence falls over the booth as the commentators and Momo all just wait for someone to make the first move. Finally Momo leans forward and pats both men on the shoulder.
MOMO WATANABE: <But let’s get back to the action, right? The best commentary team in WWE: Yamaguchi-san, Funaki-san and Momo Watanabe for one night only!>
With a parting shot of Momo’s crooked smile and Funaki and Yamaguchi’s slowly recovering ones, the cameras cut to the backstage area as we find none other than Christian Cage, the man who has been on a roll as of late since his return and oddly enough, has been left off the show, despite having not been defeated on Raw for over a month. With his ever faithful associate Killswitch at his side, it seems as though it’s time for the father of Monday nights to speak his mind and lay down what he intends to do going forward.
CHRISTIAN CAGE: It is only fitting that the best damn wrestler in the world fights the best wrestler in the world…from over ten years ago. Cody Rhodes was once that guy everyone wanted to be. He was once the man, after all. He had the world in his hands. He was the young star. The best there ever was. He had it all. He won it all. Damn…he’d done it all but look at him now. Look at what Cody Rhodes has become. Look back ten years ago and look at him now…nothing and I mean nothing has changed about the man. He is exactly the same as he has ever been, unlike me. You see a guy like Christian Cage, he does not just stick with what works for him, because trust me - sooner or later it ain't going to work. You gotta get with the times or be left behind, you gotta adapt and overcome - you gotta get better. A show can go on for only so long before it becomes stale. You got to change things up, switch things into a higher gear, otherwise your ratings are going to tank, you’re going to lose fans and you’re going to become stale. I have changed things up, I have switched things into a higher gear more than ever and look at me, I am like a whole new person; more determined, more motivated and hungrier for success than ever before. I mean do you think for one moment that I am scared of a guy who is known for one move and only one move? For being nothing more than a cheap copy of Triple H?
Christian stands there and rolls his shoulders a little bit. There was a time, a long time ago, that going up against Cody Rhodes would have sent a chill down his spine. He would have looked at this man and seen a killer, a man that wanted to hurt him and take everything that was his own, but that was over a decade ago. Cody Rhodes is not the same man that he once was, and it’s clear by the little smirk on the face of Christian Cage that he knows this better than anyone else. He has nothing to fear from a man who only has one thing going for him: a move that had been made into a meme . A man who is a joke.
CHRISTIAN CAGE: You see, when everything is said and done, Cody Rhodes, when it comes down to it, when you put everything away, all the glitz and glimmer, all the flashy fireworks and routine, all we have to get us further in this sport is our credibility. And Cody Rhodes, you’ve hurt your credibility as a main event guy on so many different occasions. I keep bringing up the fact that you phone in your matches, that you don’t care about them. That you go out to the ring and just don’t give a shit about what you’re doing. That you go through the same exact format every single time. Let me tell you this, if you have seen one of your matches, then you have seen them all. They are all the same, each and every single one of them. You’re an open book buddy and we are all sick and tired of reading about you. Cody Rhodes, I am in the back during a lot of those matches you have had here, and I hear the management, I hear them say that they were disgusted, and they regretted signing you. You have put a stain on your career, and tonight, I am here to say, I know the world wants it, they see you coming back here and everyone wanting it, but I have worked harder than anyone else, to be left off this show and for you to be here, cleaning up my sloppy seconds. I have defeated Randy Orton with ease and you’re going to come in, pick the bones and use it to go higher than me? I don’t think so, it’s time WWE knows what I am here to do, to become the WWE Champion. To take that belt and actually make it mean something is my entire purpose.
Christian raises his hand to his mouth and rubs his jaw. Cody Rhodes is a tricky one. He could be a threat; he could be the one to end it all - - if he put the effort in. But as far as Christian is concerned, Cody Rhodes has just lost his edge. He just does not seem to care and for ten years he has just been there. Never really doing anything to really stand out to anyone. Christian grins a little bit - - to him, he is the one that in the end is going to make it.
CHRISTIAN CAGE: You know that handful of matches, the ones I can count on my lone hand that were worth a damn? The last one of those matches Cody Rhodes was with me a handful of months ago. That Cody Rhodes had a little bit of fight in him - - a little, I might add, but only a little. Months ago, the fight, the passion and everything that you once were was leaving you. Back then I was fighting a man that had nearly lost all interest and tonight I see a man, I see a Christian Cage within his prime, being pushed to the side and ignored, for Cody Rhodes to come in here, steal the attention. Okada, Orton, Page, Cole, the biggest stars there ever were, all walked into the ring with me, and Christian Cage, not Cody Rhodes, defeated them all and yet, Christian Cage gets left to the side and Cody Rhodes, gets everything handed to him, like it was nothing at all, I would rather roll over in my own grave than stand and allow such a crime to come to pass, not after I have worked harder than anyone else. But titles and title matches seem to be handed out to anyone at all these days, despite the fact that I have done more than anyone else, where is Christian Cage, one more match!
The fans roar in a fury of boos at Christian Cage. But again, the seasoned veteran shrugs them off. Does he care that they like Cody Rhodes over him? Not at all. He does not care one bit about any of them or what they think. In his mind, Cody Rhodes is just another idiot who is standing in his way and like all the idiots who had come before him, he will be defeated.
CHRISTIAN CAGE: Cody Rhodes, you may have the fans fooled, and the kids in the back fooled, but not me. You know, I think you’ve even gotten yourself caught up in the hype. You honestly think that you are going to come out here tonight and pull a fast one on Christian Cage, but I see reality. I know exactly what’s going to happen. Cody Rhodes, you are going to lose. You are going to fail. You are going to come out here absent minded and just calling it, and it's going to cause you to slip up. And when you do, it will be the end of this…this pipe dream that you had any chance of ever becoming anything of any sort of worth here. I hope you’ve decided what you’re going to do, and I hope you are ready, because despite whichever version of Cody Rhodes actually shows up tonight, the end of this match will be the same… Christian Cage always wins. You will fail tonight against Randy Orton, you will fail to do anything of worth and note, and Christian Cage will be the only focus going forward, not Cody Rhodes. Christian Cage will be the one who everyone wants to see, and after tonight, the buzz about Cody Rhodes will be over with. The buzz about Christian Cage, however, will just be getting started. Next week, no matter what, I will begin to do anything and everything I can to win a championship here and make this company into something!
Christian grins for a moment as he breathes heavily after that passionate speech. The message is clear, he is ready for the fight ahead. And the newest superstar Cody Rhodes, stealing the spotlight from him, was merely a small issue that has been dealt with as far as Christian is concerned. Giving the camera final sneer, Christian walks off, Killswitch close behind him, as the cameras go back to ringside.
MICHAEL COLE: Christian Cage with a strong message for Cody Rhodes!
WADE BARRETT: It sounds like he’ll be keeping an eye on Cody’s match with Randy Orton very closely!
MICHAEL COLE: That it does, Wade, and it just so happens that that match is up next! The American Nightmare Cody Rhodes has been on the shelf for the last month due to the actions of The Viper Randy Orton, and he’s looking to deliver some justice to Orton here tonight!
"Voices" hits the P/A system, and the arena erupts with boos as The Viper, Randy Orton, slowly walks out onto the stage as he does his signature arm-raise pose for the fans and an evil grin spreads across his face for a moment. As he slowly makes his way down to the ring, his grin disappears though, as that killer instinct begins to kick in.
SAMANTHA IRVIN: The following contest is scheduled for one fall! Making his way to the ring, The Viper, Raaandyyy Orrrtooon!
MICHAEL COLE: Here we go Wade! A fierce rivalry, built on hatred between former friends. We are in for a big one here!
WADE BARRETT: A lot of bad blood between these guys, there’s no doubt it’s going to be a hell of a match!
Randy is clearly ready to fight his former friend in one of the more personal grudge matches we have had here in recent memory as he climbs into the ring, walking over to the corner and climbing up and raising his arms in the air before dropping back down to the mat, his eyes focused on the ramp, ready for the fight of his life.
Subtle drum beats hit from the speakers but are tampered in audio thanks to the boisterous crowd anticipating what this darkness could mean. There is a small murmur of “Co-dy” chants, but they are subdued by this generalized noise from the crowd. This allows Cole to continue speaking without any audio cue suggesting him to quiet down. However, he is cut off by one familiar line which has fans back on their feet ready for this moment.
WRESTLING HAS MORE THAN ONE ROYAL FAMILY
“Co-dy” chants echo through the audience, as via the television graphic, viewers at home go through the American Nightmare skull. Red, blue, and gold strobe lights brighten and energize the arena and smoke bellows from the stage! “Kingdom” by Downstait immediately follows and allows the fans ample time to begin singing in unison with the lyrics, which they oblige. However, a few seconds pass by, and the music suddenly stops. The crowd looks a little confused as Wade Barrett’s voice cuts through.
WADE BARRETT: Well where is he?
The Viper looks a little confused, but also a bit angry. Is this all a ploy? Is Cody Rhodes just playing a bit of mind games with his opponent? Orton paces back and forth in the ring, getting angrier by the second as he waits and the crowd wouldn't stop chanting "Co-dy", as suddenly we once again hear the subtle drum beats!
WRESTLING HAS MORE THAN ONE ROYAL FAMILY
“Kingdom” by Downstait immediately follows once more, and the crowd goes back to singing the lyrics for a few more seconds until once again, everything just stops. Orton has a big snarl across his face inside of the ring, shouting at both the referee, and Samantha Irvin.
MICHAEL COLE: I'm not sure Wade. This can't be good though...
The crowd is dying down a bit, everyone is left confused on what is happening as Orton is pointing in the direction of the stage and screaming something.
WADE BARRETT: He is afraid! I told you that he might regret this! Randy isn't someone to mess with! I should know!
Randy grabs the shirt of the referee, shouting at him and pointing towards the ramp. Rnady looks like he is truly coming unhinged when suddenly, a familiar voice breaks through the silence, startling Orton a bit, as he stares up at the Titantron.
STEPHANIE MCMAHON: Randy! Calm down.
It’s one of the owners of the WWE in Stephanie McMahon. Not only does she look a bit angry at how Randy is handling himself, but she also looks a bit disappointed as she has a bit of bad news to deliver.
STEPHANIE MCMAHON: Ladies, and gentlemen, unfortunately, I have some bad news to share with you this evening. It seems that Cody Rhodes was not able to make it here tonight.
The crowd erupts in boos at this news. They are beyond themselves as Orton looks up at the image of Stephanie with a smirk, laughing to himself at this news.
MICHAEL COLE: Bad news? Didn't that used to be your thing Wade?
WADE BARRETT: Real funny Cole! You're joking at a time where we might not even get this match!
As the boos slow down, she nods a bit, understanding how upset everyone is before she takes a deep breath, her eyes focusing on Samantha Irvin.
STEPHANIE MCMAHON: I know it’s incredibly disappointing, but unfortunately, he was not cleared by our medical staff for competition tonight. So, I must do what is best for business. Samantha, if you will, please announce Randy Orton as our winner for this contest due to forfeit.
This is met with even more boos as she once again nods, completely understanding the fan's frustrations as the Titantron turns off and Stephanie McMahon is now gone. Orton has a sly smirk on his face as he finally releases the referee and backs away, dusting himself off so to speak and doing a little stretching like he just had a hard fought victory.
WADE BARRETT: What a massive victory! Randy has never looked better here tonight!
MICHAEL COLE: Will you stop!
Samantha Irvin takes a bit of a deep breath, not really having a choice in the manner as her strong voice pushes through the boos raining down on the ring as Orton stands next to the referee, almost demanding him to raise his hand.
SAMANTHA IRVIN: Here is your winner, by forfeit... RAAANNNNDDDYYYYYY....
However, before she can finish. All the lights in the arena go pitch black. A buzz fills the air as the darkness consumes the Kia Center. The boos are gone as now everyone is wondering just what is going on right now.
WADE BARRETT: Now what! Is he here?
MICHAEL COLE: I don't know....
Another “Co-dy” chant fills the Kia Center when suddenly, a voice cuts through the cheers, coming from the direction of the Titantron that sends a cold, chill air into the arena as the Titantron flickers on.
MALAKAI BLACK: Oh, Raaaannnddyyyyy...
Smoke is filling the Titantron, and those footsteps are back, slowly making their way to the forefront when suddenly Malakai Black is standing there, a disappointed look on his face as he looks down before him. Black shakes his head from side to side as the voice of Michael Cole speaks through the silence, his voice shaking a bit.
MICHAEL COLE: Oh no.
Cole has made it clear that he is a bit afraid of the man from Amsterdam, especially after last week's Monday Night Raw when he led the destruction of “Hangman” Adam Page. Black is nodding up and down as his voice speaks intensely from the start as his eyes raise, looking down at the St. Louis native.
MALAKAI BLACK: Are you that much of a coward? Allowing yourself to take this victory in such a disgusting manner. What has become of the Viper? Have you lost your venom after all these years?
The crowd lets out a little bit of an "oooh" after those words. Orton smirks a bit, laughing to himself as he stands in the ring. A blue spotlight is shining over the Viper in the ring as the camera is over his shoulder, looking up at the Titantron from behind him.
MALAKAI BLACK: You are a coward, Randy Orton. A coward hiding behind a past, filled with destruction and despair. However, that is not what you're about anymore, is it Viper? You are protected and afraid of a true battle. A true war between two warriors, ready to lay down everything for the house. Willing to sacrifice and receive every inch of agony that you have ever received in your life. If you aren't willing to lay it all on the line... then you've already lost.
With each passing word, Randy is getting angrier and angrier, stewing in the ring with his anger as he just looks up at Malakai Black.
MALAKAI BLACK: You see, Mr. Orton, I can sense it. I can feel it, all the way from here. You are afraid. Just like Michael Cole…you are afraid of the truth. Afraid of what you have become, and you know that you could never stop the war from swallowing you whole...right here...right now.
'
Orton has had enough, screaming at the referee to get him down here, to get him down to the ring right now. He doesn't care where he is, ripping his jacket off and screaming at the Titantron for Malakai Black to stop hiding and come fight him if he wants to be so bold. Malakai Black smirks as he watches this, looking down and shaking his head from side to side. Almost like he has him, exactly where he wants him now.
MALAKAI BLACK: You are a fool Mr. Orton... you have just signed your demise.
Suddenly all of the lights go out once more, leaving the KIA Center in darkness once again. This lasts just a few seconds when suddenly, the lights flickered back on. The crowd explodes as Malakai Black stands there, right behind Randy Orton, staring at him, shocking the WWE Universe as we are about to have a match that nobody expected to have here tonight.
MICHAEL COLE: Malakai Black is here!
WADE BARRETT: Turn around, Randy!
SINGLES MATCH
Orton is poised to strike, but behind him, so is his new opponent, Malakai Black. Both men are waiting for the right moment as the bell rings to sound the start of this match. Randy backs up into Black and immediately reaches up wrapping his arms around the neck of Black but is pushed off forcefully and lands onto his back as he attempts the RKO. As the crowd cheers the counter, Orton is getting to his feet as he holds his back in pain, turning to face Malakai Black who viciously and quickly strikes with a kick to the jaw of Orton, BLACK MASS! Orton is staggering on his feet as Black quickly ascends the turnbuckle corner and waits for the correct moment to jump off with a Diving Meteora, rolling into the recovery for himself as he runs to the ropes and springboards off with a Quebrada! Picture perfect moonsault landing after he springboards off without any assistance from his own hands and makes the cover, 1...2...Black pulls the shoulder up himself as the referee warns him about the unsportsmanlike conduct! Malakai, however, just stares at his prey as Orton struggles to push himself up off the canvas. A grin spreads over his face as he eyes Orton pushing himself up onto his knees both arms barely keeping his weight off the canvas. Black now sits back in the corner as he waits for just a second longer to enjoy this before rushing forward with a PUNT KICK to the side of Orton's head! As he stares down at the now lifeless form of Orton, all Black can do is grin as he places a foot cockily on his chest and raises his arms in the air as the crowd counts along for the pinfall, 1...2....3!

MALAKAI BLACK
02:48 via PINFALL
SAMANTHA IRVIN: Here is your winner, MALAKAIII BLAAACK!
MICHAEL COLE: Malakai Black just beat Orton with his own maneuver!
WADE BARRETT: How is that Punt kick not banned after all the trouble it's cause in this company! Orton wasn't prepared to face Malakai!
MICHAEL COLE: Prepared or not he's the one that took the challenge and invited this outcome!
WADE BARRETT: After such an impressive victory over Cody Rhodes nobody expected this to happen to Orton! Certainly not me, Cole!
MICHAEL COLE: You know what they say, Wade, anything can happen in the WWE!
The referee checks on Randy Orton as his opponent steps away from his victim and picks up his mask from the corner, placing it back on his face. The lights in the arena start flickering once again as we see the image of Malakai Black sitting in the center of the ring before the lights seem to almost show him fading from view in that same spot in an instant. The referee looks spooked by what just happened, and then goes back to tending on Orton who is still out after the Punt kick.
The cameras cut to the backstage area to show Byron Saxton standing by, dressed in suit and tie and with a microphone in hand; the standard look we'd expect to see from him.
BYRON SAXTON: Ladies and gentlemen…Dakota Kai.
Wandering a few paces forward, we see Dakota Kai appear on the scene. She has a smile on her lips, albeit it somewhat of a forced one as she only gives Byron a quick glance before turning away.
BYRON SAXTON: Dakota, you asked for this time tonight so question is, what is it you have to say?
DAKOTA KAI: Well, let's just throw this out there straight away. The fact that I'm left off of the Backlash card is unacceptable. Y'know, I didn't even have to bother coming here tonight but I knew I couldn't just let these other women take up the precious spotlight. I'm clearly one of the top new stars around here, and don't forget the fact that I am undefeated here as well and - -
BYRON SAXTON: You've had one match.
Byron chips in before awkwardly stepping away again. Dakota's expression falls and she turns towards him, glaring at Byron with intensity in her eyes.
DAKOTA KAI: I know that. But how impressive was that victory? It was an absolute show-stealing performance and how many others can say that they do that on day one on the job? Come on. I'm all for giving credit where credit is due, but this women's division needed a shakeup and they damn sure needed someone like me to come around. Someone with this level of intensity, desire, hunger, and well, of course, talent. I'm here to shake things up and climb the ranks. Yes, even I'm willing to do that but I see it as an easy route to the top. Last week was step one. So, the answer to your question is simple, Byron.
She rolls her eyes as if to dismiss Byron before he can respond to that, as she then centers herself in front of the camera and forces another smile.
DAKOTA KAI: Tonight, I'm just here to watch. Merely observe. I just want every single woman on this roster to be aware of just how seriously I'm taking my time here. There's no backing down and no shying away from competition. I've seen what the other ladies of the WWE can do and for the most part, I am impressed. Are they anything on me? Of course not, but I'm willing to give them all a chance to earn my respect. Perhaps the four women who are participating in the Women's and Women's Intercontinental Championship matches will have the opportunity to do that. If they steal the show the way they all likely claim they will, then fine. Maybe I'll stand here and applaud that. But equally, if I'm not impressed by what I see, I'll make that known. So, no matter which two out of Becky Lynch, Serena Deeb, Chelsea Green, or Tiffany Stratton leave tonight with those titles in their grubby little hands, they better have done everything in their power to have deserved it and proven themselves a worthy champion. Only the absolute best of the best should be anywhere near championship gold. So, no matter who survives those battles, I want to make it known that I will be waiting for them...
Dakota nods her head, taking a moment to think over her next words.
DAKOTA KAI: Yeah, I'll be watching both of those matches with interest. And I mean I'll be watching very closely. I know that there are more and more women flooding this division right now so the competition is fierce and as saturated as that may become, only the greatest will thrive in the end…and you're looking at the greatest-in-the-making.
BYRON SAXTON: Well, Dakota, thanks for your time!
Dakota doesn't even dignify him with a response and just looks him up and down with narrowed eyes before she turns on her heel and wanders away and the cameras go back to ringside.
MICHAEL COLE: Strong words from Dakota Kai for the rest of the women in the locker room!
WADE BARRETT: She can back up those words though, Cole, did you see how impressive she was in the ring against Rhea Ripley this past Monday night?
MICHAEL COLE: I did, Wade, and I have no doubts that she has a bright future ahead of her! However, we need to focus on the here and now, and right now we’re having our first of two women’s matches tonight as Becky Lynch defends the Women’s Intercontinental Championship against Chelsea Green in a No Disqualification match!
”Celtic Invasion” hits the speakers and the crowd goes wild with cheers as the Women’s Intercontinental Champion, Becky Lynch, comes out to the top of the ramp. Wearing the Women’s Intercontinental Championship proudly around her waist, Becky looks out at the crowd with a confident smile before making her way down the ramp.
SAMANTHA IRVIN: The following contest is a No Disqualification match scheduled for one fall, and it is for the Women’s Intercontinental Championship! Introducing first, she is the Women’s Intercontinental Champion, The Man Beckyyy Lyyynch!
MICHAEL COLE: Becky Lynch looks ready for a fight tonight, Wade!
WADE BARRETT: She certainly does! She’s been promising to make this match incredibly violent, I’ll admit I’m afraid for what Chelsea Green might be about to experience here tonight!
Getting down to the bottom of the ramp, Becky looks at the ring and nods before walking over to the steel steps and confidently stomping up to the apron, wiping her feet off before she steps into the ring. Walking over to the ropes facing the hard camera, Becky stands on the bottom rope as she raises her right arm triumphantly in the air, eliciting more cheers from the Orlando crowd. Stepping back down to the mat, Becky takes off her jacket and hands it off to the ringside attendant, and as her music starts to fade out she takes off her championship and hands it off to the referee. Suddenly…
Shhh! It’s Chelsea!
“Hot Mess” by def rebel begins to play on the speakers and the crowd once again begins to boo as Chelsea Green makes her way to the top of the ramp and does her signature “shh” pose. Soaking in the boos from the crowd, Chelsea begins to make her way down to the ring with a big smile on her face.
SAMANTHA IRVIN: And the challenger, making her way to the ring, The Hot Mess, Chelseeea Greeen!
MICHAEL COLE: Chelsea Green got herself into this match because she knows how to politic with the best of them, and nobody can convince me otherwise!
WADE BARRETT: Nonsense, Cole! She’s in this match because Stephanie McMahon realizes the true star potential that she possesses!
As she gets to the bottom of the ramp, Chelsea walks over to the side of the ring and hops up onto the apron, putting her hand on her hip as she arrogantly looks out to the crowd. After a moment, she steps inside of the ring, taking off her hat and her tutu as she hands them to a ringside attendant and makes her way to the corner opposite of Becky, smirking at The Man as she does. As she reaches her corner, her music fades out and the referee raises the Women's Intercontinental Championship into the air before handing it off to Samantha Irvin as she exits the ring.
SINGLES MATCH
The bell rings and Becky goes right for Chelsea but The Hot Mess slips out of the ring in a flash, holding up her hands and saying she’s not ready yet! Becky rests her hands on the top rope and looks at Chelsea with annoyed expression as Green primps her hair before waving to the booing crowd, once again soaking up their negative reception, turning her back to Becky in the process. Clearly not in the mood for games, Becky reaches through the ropes and grabs Chelsea by her hair and pulls her up to the apron! Chelsea lets out a scream as Becky does this, throwing an elbow to try and strike Becky and get her off, but the best she does is hit Becky weakly on the shoulder. Struggling, Chelsea turns around to face Becky and she reaches up and grabs Becky behind the head, jumping down to the floor and driving Becky’s throat against the top rope and sending The Man crashing down to the mat!
MICHAEL COLE: What a dirty move by Chelsea Green!
WADE BARRETT: Come on, Cole, it’s not dirty, it’s smart! Becky had her hands full of Chelsea’s hair, how else was she going to get out of that?
Chelsea taps the side of her head to indicate she was thinking on her feet as she laughs evilly and slides into the ring. Walking over to the downed Becky, Chelsea goes for the cover, 1…Becky Lynch immediately kicks out! Chelsea shoots an annoyed look at the referee but she gets to her feet regardless and bends down and picks Becky up, whipping the Women’s Intercontinental Champion into the corner. Sizing up her target, Chelsea runs in and hits Becky with a running hip attack, sending The Man down to a seated position! Chelsea then drags Becky out of the corner and turns her over onto her stomach, grabbing her by the wrists and pulling her upper torso up, putting her foot on Becky’s upper back and then sending her face smashing into the bottom turnbuckle with a vicious Corner Foot Stomp! Chelsea parades around the ring, proud of herself and how she has the upper hand in the match thus far, and the Orlando crowd goes crazy with boos.
MICHAEL COLE: These people do not like Chelsea Green, Wade!
WADE BARRETT: They don’t have to like her, but they damn well need to respect her! She could very well be our new Women’s intercontinental Champion after tonight!
Eager to keep up the momentum, Chelsea goes over to the ropes and exits the ring, kneeling down at the ring skirt and lifting it up, rummaging around. After a moment, Chelsea pulls out a steel chair, holding it in both hands and looking at it with a sadistic smile on her face, before looking at the still downed Becky Lynch in the ring.
MICHAEL COLE: Chelsea Green has some bad intentions with that chair!
WADE BARRETT: She’s simply taking advantage of the No Disqualification environment, Cole! Any smart competitor would do the same thing!
Sliding the chair into the ring, Chelsea now slides under the bottom rope and stands back up, bending over to pick up the chair. Watching as Becky begins to stir and get to her knees, Chelsea comes running with the chair, ready to strike, but Becky somehow senses what’s going on and she brings Chelsea down with a drop toe hold, causing Chelsea to smash herself face first against the chair!
MICHAEL COLE: That ended up backfiring in a big way!
WADE BARRETT: Ohhh that’s gonna leave a mark!
Chelsea is now holding her face in pain, as she rolls over onto her back. The crowd is cheering as Becky is back to her feet now and she grabs Chelsea’s legs and drags her into the center of the ring and goes for the cover, hooking the leg, 1…2…THRNOOO! Last second kick out by Chelsea Green! Becky sits up, nodding as she realizes she won’t be able to put Chelsea down that quickly. Meanwhile, Chelsea dramatically rolls to the bottom rope and then rolls out onto the floor in a heap, catching her breath. Becky gets to her feet again as she realizes that Chelsea is on the outside once again. Going over to the corner, Becky climbs up to the top turnbuckle and stays perched there as she watches Chelsea slowly get to her feet. Once she’s back up, Becky leaps off of the top turnbuckle, coming down on Chelsea and bringing her down with a crossbody!
MICHAEL COLE: It looks like Becky Lynch has regained control of things!
WADE BARRETT: Chelsea better think fast if she wants to get the upper hand on Becky again, once The Man gets started, it’s hard to get her to stop!
Becky stands up and raises her arms triumphantly in the air as the crowd goes crazy with cheers for her. She bends down and grabs Chelsea up and tosses her into the ring but before she can go in the ring herself, Jamie Hayter runs down the ramp and spins Becky around to look at her, and decks The Man in the face with a right hand!
MICHAEL COLE: What the hell is Jamie Hayter doing out here?!
WADE BARRETT: Your guess is as good as mine, Cole, I didn't see this one coming!
The crowd is going crazy with boos at the interference of Hayter, as Becky holds her jaw where she was just struck. Jamie is looking at Becky with venom in her eyes and she grabs Becky’s arm and whips her into the ringpost, causing Becky to fall to the ground! Stalking over to the downed Lynch, Jamie bends down and roughly picks her back up by her hair, dragging The Man over to the steel steps and smacking her face against them! Then she does it again for a second time, and then for a third! Becky Lynch looks well and truly out of it as she’s only being kept on her feet by Jamie Hayter holding on to her, and the Hayteful one looks at her with a look of pure hatred as she spins Becky around and hoists her limp body up onto the apron and rolls her into the ring. The crowd is going absolutely wild with boos as Jamie Hayter begins walking backwards up the ramp, giving Becky Lynch one final sneer before looking out at the crowd, lifting up both middle fingers at them in response to their boos, and turning around and walking the rest of the way up the ramp to the back. Chelsea Green has now stirred, and looks confused as to what’s going on, but sees Becky’s prone, limp body laying there. Sensing this could be her moment, Chelsea quickly crawls over to Becky’s body and goes for the cover, 1…2…THRNOO! Becky Lynch gets her foot on the bottom rope, forcing a break!
MICHAEL COLE: I cannot believe Becky Lynch had the ring awareness to put her foot on the bottom rope!
WADE BARRETT: I can’t either, Cole, I thought this one was over!
Chelsea Green is still too wiped out to try and argue with the referee about what happened. Instead, she stands up and she drags Becky to the center of the ring and goes to cover her again but Becky suddenly surprises her with a small package pin! 1…2…kick out by Chelsea! Both women lay there on the mat, catching their breath before they both start to get to their feet. Chelsea is to her feet first and she grabs Becky up to pull her up the rest of the way, and she kicks Becky in the midsection, before grabbing her arms and spinning her around, jumping up and driving her down into the mat with the I’m Prettier! Quickly, Chelsea turns Becky over and covers her once again, 1…2…THRENOOOO! Becky Lynch again gets the shoulder up!
WADE BARRETT: How did Becky kick out of that?!
MICHAEL COLE: She’s determined to keep the Women’s Intercontinental Championship around her waist, and she’ll do whatever it takes to do just that!
Chelsea is now grabbing her hair in shock, in complete disbelief that she was unable to put Becky away with that. Getting to her feet, she bends down and picks Becky up once again, turning around and looking to hit another I’m Prettier, but Becky is able to free her hands from Chelsea’s grip and push Chelsea towards the ropes! As Chelsea comes back, Becky stops her and puts her arm up on Chelsea’s shoulder, lifting her up and bringing her down hard to the mat with the Manhandle Slam! With Chelsea down and out, Becky goes for the cover and hooks the leg, 1…2…3! Becky Lynch retains!
WINNER
BECKY LYNCH
10:21 via PINFALL
SAMANTHA IRVIN: Here is your winner, and STIIILL the Women’s Intercontinental Champion, The Man BECKYYY LYYYNCH!
MICHAEL COLE: Becky Lynch overcame the odds, including an interference from Jamie Hayter, and is walking out of Backlash with the Women’s intercontinental Championship still around her waist!
WADE BARRETT: That was a hell of a match, Cole! But let’s give credit where credit is due, Chelsea Green brought the fight to Becky all on her own, regardless of any outside factors!
As “Celtic Invasion” begins to play on the speakers again, Becky stumbles up to her feet as the referee brings the Women’s Intercontinental Championship over to her and hands it to her, raising her arm in the air. With the crowd cheering her victory, Becky steps away from the referee and walks over to the corner, climbing up to the second turnbuckle and raising the Women’s Intercontinental Championship high into the air. Soaking in the fans' cheers, Becky looks at them all with a proud smile as she brings the championship down and looks at it lovingly and gives it a pat. Hopping down to the mat, Becky rolls under the bottom rope down to the floor, slapping a few of the outstretched hands of fans as she begins making her way up the ramp. She turns to look back at Chelsea Green who is now sitting up and throwing a fit in the ring, and The Man laughs as she once again raises her championship into the air as the cameras fade out to commercial.
Tune in next week as we experience the fallout from Backlash!
