Monday Night RAW
July 22, 2024
Tingley Coliseum
Albuquerque, New Mexico
As the opening video package ends, pyro explodes on the stage as the crowd in Albuquerque, New Mexico is erupting in cheers. The cameras pan through the crowd, showing off various signs reading things like “U Can’t C Me!”, “Hurricane Comin’ Through!”, “Dr. Britt Baker D.M.D.” and more. After doing a pan of the Tingley Coliseum, the cameras settle in on the commentary table where we see the team of Michael Cole and Wade Barrett.
MICHAEL COLE: Good evening ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to Monday Night RAW!
WADE BARRETT: We’ve got a packed one tonight, Cole! For the first time in a long while, we’ll be seeing John Cena in a WWE ring.
MICHAEL COLE: Not just to pop in either, he’s going one-on-one with Matt Cardona and it looks to be just the beginning for his return!
WADE BARRETT: Adam Cole is also beginning his run in the WWE and he’s looking to catch a victory against Brody King tonight.
MICHAEL COLE: The last RAW was not a great night for either man, but this week one of them is guaranteed to pick up a little bit of steam as they face off!
WADE BARRETT: Rollins is looking to continue his streak tonight when he goes up against The Hurricane! Another whacko joining our superstars, it seems like they’re coming out of the woodwork for us lately here, Cole!
MICHAEL COLE: You might not be a fan of his, but I have some very pleasant memories in relation to The Hurricane. I’m hoping to see the two of them really test each other's limits!
WADE BARRETT: I’d really like to see Gunther put Orange to his limits! It’ll be nice to have The Ring General back in action and doing what he does best!
MICHAEL COLE: Cassidy may surprise you, it’s only our first time seeing him in a WWE ring! He might make Gunther beat a retreat by the time he’s through with him.
WADE BARRETT: I’ll tell you who will be beating a retreat, it’s going to be Britt Baker when she faces off against Rhea Ripley tonight!
MICHAEL COLE: I don’t know, if she’s still moving after that fall at Money in the Bank, you have to imagine that she’s pretty strong herself!
WADE BARRETT: If you want to see strong, all you have to do is look at this triple threat match. We’ve got three men each with their own strengths looking to capitalize on the others to stand out amongst the crowd!
MICHAEL COLE: Christian, has got to be looking for a little anger management in this one after losing his Intercontinental Championship to Mankind.
WADE BARRETT: Enzo and Daniels aren’t going to make it easy though because a win over the former Intercontinental Champion has to put them in the running for gold at some point if they can manage to beat him.
MICHAEL COLE: You also have to think that Theory and White are looking to beat each other. Money in the Bank was not a success for either man, but they might be looking for a little revenge tonight in our main event.
"Kombat (remix)" by def rebel blasts over the speakers. With pink lights flashing across the stage, the fans are in anticipation as they await the arrival of Dakota Kai. Eventually, she bursts onto the stage, holding the Women's Money in the Bank briefcase up high in her left hand as she shouts something towards the crowd, while hitting her chest with her right hand. Regardless of the overall more negative response from the crowd, Dakota heads down to the ring and grabs a microphone from ringside. Entering the ring and standing in the center, she simply awaits the crowd's response to die down. After some time, Dakota lifts the microphone to speak.
DAKOTA KAI: I told you so...
As a smirk begins to grace her lips, the crowd boos as a reaction to that short sentence.
DAKOTA KAI: I told you that I could be better. I told you that I could do more. I told you that I could step up and start doing exactly what I said I was going to and look, this is the result of that. Look at this...
She lifts her arm up, bringing the briefcase with it so it's in the spotlight. Dakota tilts her head ever so slightly to gaze upon it with pride.
DAKOTA KAI: This is mine. This is a guaranteed opportunity at, at present, Serena Deeb. I have never been reserved about the fact that I truly believed I'd earn my opportunity again and look at me, that's exactly what's happened. Very few people have believed in me nor wanted to see me succeed. To those people? I say... boo-hoo. Cry about it. I know, for the most part, you've all been rooting against me, and that's fine. I've grown to just accept it now because I back myself and that's what matters. Call me what you want, I've heard it all, but you should really now start getting used to calling me Ms. Money in the Bank!
This once again prompts the crowd to boo heavily but in turn, Dakota releases a laugh.
DAKOTA KAI: This was the next logical step in my career progression and in capturing this, it's lit a fire within me. It's no longer just a spark, but an all-consuming raging fire that will continue to burn bright as I blaze a trail through the women's division. Like it or not, that's just the new reality you're all going to have to get used to. Since day one, I knew I would climb the ranks. I knew I would grow to become the face of the women's division and I've continued to make those bold claims. Time and time again, I've continued to declare my intentions and there's been little to no belief in those promises from any of you. But finally... finally I can say that I did it. Of course, there's one more step to take before I truly get there. So, Serena Deeb...
Dakota glares directly into the camera in front of her.
DAKOTA KAI: ... don't feel too comfortable. Congratulations on yet another successful title defense, but now is the time to really watch your back. I won't be giving away further information regarding my plans but just know, my sights are set on you and the WWE Women's Championship. Clearly, I didn't cash in when the opportunity following your title defense against Lita was right there. You're welcome, by the way...
A laugh from Dakota follows.
DAKOTA KAI: But while I'm sure you'd prefer some fresh challenges and I'm confident that some will be coming your way, I'm just saying, don't forget about me and that rematch that I'm sure we've both been eagerly waiting for. I truly believe we were always destined to meet again; don't you? The next time, though, the result is going to be different.
Taking a moment to soak in the negative reaction, Dakota seems to relish in it. It's not often we see a smile etched on the face of Dakota Kai these days, but that is front and center in this moment.
DAKOTA KAI: And to every single woman who shared the ring with me at Money in the Bank, I commend you. It was exactly the kind of epic battle I expected and even I can admit that each and every one of you delivered. But the truth is, the greatest of us all thrived in the end. The best woman came out on top, and you can't deny that. While it was an absolute show-stealer of a match, I'd argue it was clear that the rightful woman won in the end and she's going to make the most of this. Expect to see a much more fired up Dakota Kai moving forward.
Dakota lightly tilts her head to one side and allows another smile.
DAKOTA KAI: Like it or not, I am the future of the WWE, and this proves it.
Dakota Kai raises her briefcase one more time as the crowd boos heavily. She simply smirks in response as she exits the ring to head to the back. Clutching her case, she mocks fans in the front rows on her way onto the stage and ultimately, through the curtain to the back.
MICHAEL COLE: Well there you have it, Wade, Dakota Kai is your Women's Money in the Bank holder, and it seems that's helped her get her spark back!
WADE BARRETT: I'd say so, Cole. Dakota Kai is holding that case with confidence, but the question is, what is she going to end up doing with it and more to the point, when?
MICHAEL COLE: Well, none of us will really know when but I’d imagine that WWE Women’s Championship is what she’s focused on! Dakota already came very close to dethroning Deeb the last time that they squared off against one another.
WADE BARRETT: A different night, a different series of events, we all hope that we could’ve done some things that we didn’t, Cole! Dakota is a very real threat, Deeb should never discount her ability either. After Money in the Bank, I’m sure a lot of these ladies are looking at Dakota in a different light!
MICHAEL COLE: And we could be seeing Matt Cardona in a different light after tonight. He’s facing the returning John Cena, and some people might not think he’s up to the task, but MJF and Cardona have been known to be quite tricky and great at what they do in their own rights!
"When the Lights Go Down" by Downstait begins to play over the P/A system of the Tingley Stadium as Matt Cardona makes his way out to the top of the stage with a confident stride. Cardona’s arms out at his side as he tries to give the ladies a good look at what they’re missing out on.
SAMANTHA IRVIN: The following contest is scheduled for one fall! Making his way to the ring, he is one-half of Strong Island; The Major Player, Maaatt Caaardonaaa!
MICHAEL COLE: These two have a long history in the WWE, they were originally enemies, went to being friends, and then back to enemies after Cena kissed Cardona’s then girlfriend at the time. Cena has brought a lot of pain into Cardona’s life over the years.
WADE BARRETT: Cardona spent a lot of time honing his craft to be seen as something on the same level of John Cena outside of WWE. Winning championship after championship and lighting the independent scene on fire with popularity everywhere he went. Now being back in WWE for some time, you have to imagine that he sees himself as more of the flagship superstar and that WWE is his home now!
Cardona takes off his ring jacket after entering the ring and taunts the crowd as they boo him loudly. Cardona flips them off and demands to the ringside camera that Cena bring himself down to the ring so that he can beat his ass. “The Time Is Now” by John Cena and Tha Trademarc hits and the fans go bonkers for the arrival of John Cena as he makes his way out to the stage and eats up the attention. Lifting up his “Never Give Up!” towel and salutes the camera before he tosses it to the crowd and runs his way straight down to the ring.
SAMANTHA IRVIN: And his opponent, making his return to WWE; Jooohn Ceeena!
MICHAEL COLE: It’s been a long time coming, but John Cena is officially back and I’m ready to see what he’s still capable of!
WADE BARRETT: It’s a big night for Cena, and it’s a big night for the WWE Universe, Cole! It’s been a long time since we had Cena all to ourselves and on a regular schedule. We’ll have to see tonight if he’s lost a step along the way!
Cena slides in the ring and shoots straight back up to his feet. Motioning to Matt Cardona that he’s watching him as Cardona has slipped to the outside to avoid Cena for the moment.
SINGLES MATCH
Cena stands in his corner, stretching his legs but still keeping his eyes on Cardona the whole time. Cardona keeps his eyes on Cena too. The bell rings, and the two men gradually move to the center of the ring. There are no more than two meters between them when they begin moving around the ring in an anti-clockwise motion. Still maintaining their eyes on the other, Cena teases an attempt at a lock-up but steps back. Cardona chuckles wryly at Cena before suddenly running into Cena, clubbing away at him and trying to knock him down, but Cena pushes Cardona off and charges at him with a shoulder block, but Cardona sidesteps and Cena turns around into a dropkick from the Strong Island member, knocking him back onto the ropes. Cardona goes for a clothesline over the ropes, but Cena ducks and low-bridges Cardona. Cardona lands awkwardly on the outside, and Cena soon joins him there. Cena stands Cardona up and grabs his head as a guide before unloading some right hands to the face of Cardona.
MICHAEL COLE: Those right hands can do some damage!
WADE BARRETT: And if Cardona doesn’t turn this around, it could be over!
Cena then lifts Cardona up and tries to drop him over the barricade, but Cardona rakes the eyes of Cena just in time, and Cardona escapes and rolls back in the ring while Cena stumbles around, tending to his eyes. Cardona taunts the crowd while he waits for Cena to re-enter the ring. Cena rolls back in, and Cardona takes to him as quickly as possible and stomps away at Cena, not even allowing him to get back in the ring properly or get back to his feet. The official for the match eventually steps in and separates Cardona from Cena. Cardona laughs at the fact that the official had to step in, which doesn't impress him as he warns Cardona. Cena gets back up to his feet, and Cardona is back at him, planting some knife-edge chops to the chest of Cena before attempting to whip him to the corner, only for Cena to reverse the move. Cardona is whipped to the corner and then the victim of a massive, powerful clothesline from the fan-favorite Cena. Cardona staggers out of the corner groggily, and Cena lands a punishing kick to the gut of Cardona before running to the ropes behind him and rebounding off. Cena hits Cardona with the throwback, driving his face down into the canvas!
MICHAEL COLE: Cardona is certainly not liking this turn of fortune!
WADE BARRETT: And he’s not in a good place because Cena looks as though he’s got evil intentions on his mind!
Cena taunts the crowd, before going to the ropes and exiting to the apron, he then climbs the turnbuckles and reaches the top. Cena watches Cardona as he gets to his hands and knees and then jumps from the top in search of a leg drop to the back of Cardona's head, but Cardona rolls out of the way. Cena lands on the canvas uncomfortably, and Cardona continues to recover. Cardona is the first up, but Cena soon follows, not too far behind. Cena begins to approach Cardona, but Cardona reacts out of instinct and surprises Cena with an immediate step-up enziguri. Cena collapses down to the canvas, and this buys Cardona some time. Cardona recovers and gets back to his feet again. Cena is beginning to get back to his feet again, and Cardona spots this out of the corner of his eye and takes note of it. Cena bounces off the ropes and staggers into a kick to the gut from Cardona, who then runs to the ropes behind Cena and connects with a running one-handed bulldog on Cena. Cena rebounds and turns to his back. Cardona gets a wide grin on his face as he stoops down to Cena and waves the "You can't see me!" at him before bouncing off the ropes and comes back to nail his own version of the Five Knuckle Shuffle! It connects, and Cardona confidently hooks the leg of Cena, 1...2…Cena kicks out!
MICHAEL COLE: You’re not done yet, Cardona!
WADE BARRETT: It takes a lot to put a man like Cena down but if anyone can do it, it’s Cardona!
Cardona is shocked that Cena kicked out of the Five Knuckle Shuffle but doesn't let it show too much. He gets back up and begins measuring Cena to attempt yet another move to finally put away Cena. Cena stumbles back up to his feet, nursing his stomach, when he turns around into Cardona, who knees him in the stomach, puts him in a double underhook position, and attempts to lift Cena up, but Cena counters with a back body drop! As Cardona begins to get to both feet, Cena rebounds off the ropes behind him, timing it perfectly to connect with a Lou Thesz Press followed by multiple punches! Cena gets back up, banging his chest with his fists, getting the crowd behind him. He begins measuring Cardona for the oncoming move as he stumbles back up, and Cardona walks into a spin-out powerbomb! Cena then looks around as he stands at the head of Cardona and then performs the 'You Can't See Me' taunt before running to the ropes and rebounding off with the Five Knuckle Shuffle! Cardona nurses his face and cries out in pain as he stumbles back up to his feet. He walks into Cena, who lifts him over his shoulders in position for an Attitude Adjustment!
MICHAEL COLE: Cena is ready for this one to be over!
WADE BARRETT: That’s not what Cardona looks like he’s ready for!
Cardona wriggles out of it though and lands on his feet behind Cena and performs a roll-up, 1...2... Cena kicks out! Cardona frustratedly slaps the canvas, both men get to their feet, and Cardona quickly makes his way to staying on the offensive. Cardona lands some knife-edge chops to the chest of Cena before going for a whip, but Cena reverses and Cardona gets whipped to the ropes. He rebounds and catches Cena with a spinning wheel kick that knocks him down. Cardona gets back up energetically, making his move as he stalks the leader of the Cenation. The two then begin struggling as Cardona grabs him by the legs, Cena struggles as Cardona tries to twist him over onto his front. Cena eventually overpowers Cardona and kicks him away into the corner! Cena gets back to his feet, and Cardona emerges out of the corner and charges at Cena. Cena is fully prepared, and he nails a fisherman suplex out of nowhere and turns over to hook the leg of the champion, 1...2… Cardona kicks out! Cardona rolls over and gets back up to his feet, as does Cena. Cena looks to capitalize on the momentum he's building and approaches Cardona again. He kicks him in the gut and tries to lift him up for an Attitude Adjustment!
MICHAEL COLE: Here we go again, Wade!
WADE BARRETT: Come on, Cardona! Don’t let him win!
But as he lifts Cardona up, Cardona knees him in the jaw, and Cena drops him. Cena tends to his jaw, and for that one moment, his attention is on his jaw and not Cardona. Cardona capitalizes and goes for the Radio Silence...but Cena somehow avoids the match-ending move and pushes Cardona away in midair! Cardona lands properly though and charges back at Cena, who quickly turns to the side, lifts Cardona up onto his shoulders, and slams him down with an Attitude Adjustment! Cena drops to his knees and hooks the leg of Cardona, 1...2...3! John Cena wins!
WINNER
JOHN CENA
11:28 via PINFALL
SAMANTHA IRVIN: Here is your winner, JOOOHN CEEENA!
MICHAEL COLE: He’s back Wade, and he’s better than ever!
WADE BARRETT: It pains me to admit it, the wear and tear of age gets us all, but he’s still got a few victories left it appears!
Cena throws his wristbands to the audience and raises the signature hustle, loyalty, respect taunt to the crowd after he climbs the turnbuckle corner. The crowd is going absolutely wild for him as he has a huge grin on his face, and he salutes them once again.
MICHAEL COLE: What a return for the triumphant John Cena, and you have to imagine that he’s very pleased right now!
WADE BARRETT: I can only imagine where his goals are set, and Diesel might just want to keep one eye open!
Getting back down to the mat, Cena exits the ring and hops down to the floor, slapping the many outstretched hands of the fans in the front row as he begins to make his way up the ramp. Once he gets to the top he turns around and looks out at the roaring crowd with another big smile as he salutes them for a final time before turning and heading to the back.
The TitanTron flickers on, taking us to a room in an unknown location. The room is shrouded in darkness, the only illumination coming from a single, dangling light bulb that swings gently above a lone figure. The faint hum of electricity is the only sound, creating an eerie, almost cinematic atmosphere. The Hurricane sits on a plain wooden chair, a bemused grin spreading across his face as he holds a comic book - - his comic book, which he fondly refers to as the "Book of Hurricane."
THE HURRICANE: Ah, the WWE Universe! Gather around, for tonight, your favorite superhero continues the epic saga of justice and valor! Behold, the Book of Hurricane!
He flips the pages with exaggerated enthusiasm, his fingers brushing against the well-worn paper.
THE HURRICANE: Tonight, we delve deeper into the story, this time you'd hear the story about the First Clash of the Hurricane with Evil!
CHAPTER 2: Primum Certamen Huragani cum malo
The Hurricane chuckles, his laughter echoing in the confined space.
THE HURRICANE: Our story resumes with the Hurricane freshly endowed with his mighty powers. Seeking to bring justice to the dark corners of the world, he infiltrates a powerful world wrestling organization - - a den of iniquity and villainy. His goal? To rise through the ranks, to become the most formidable force sitting at the right hand of the gang's nefarious leader, only to tear down the organization from within!
He leaned forward, the light casting dramatic shadows across his masked face.
THE HURRICANE: And thus begins his perilous journey into the heart of darkness. His first opponent? A scoundrel by the name of Seth, The Man Who's Rollin'... a man known for his freakin' tactics and incessant... rollin' maneuvers.
With a dramatic flourish, The Hurricane begins to narrate the tale.
THE HURRICANE: The Hurricane, ever the vigilant hero, watched Seth from the shadows. In the locker room, he observed how Seth meticulously wrapped his hands, a ritual both methodical and telling. He noted the flicker of nerves in Seth's eyes, a chink in the armor. His senses attuned to every Seth's movement. He had hidden in the back seats of Seth's car, a position both uncomfortable and absurd, yet necessary for the greater good.
In his mind, The Hurricane recounts his meticulous surveillance.
THE HURRICANE: The Hurricane's keen eye missed nothing. He saw Seth's arrogance, his love for fashion, yet also his insecurities. The Green Hero saw things so gross and tiny that you shouldn't even see! In the silence of the night, the Hurricane crouched beneath the benches of the gym, concealed by the shadows, as Seth trained tirelessly.
A sudden knock on the door interrupts the monologue. The Hurricane pauses, a hint of annoyance flashing across his face. He rises from his chair, the light casting his shadow tall and imposing against the wall. Opening the door just a crack, he peers out to see an unfamiliar face.
THE HURRICANE: Who dares to interrupt the Hurricane in his moment of revelation?
STRANGER: Hey, what are you doing in the dark? Did you pay your bills? And what's with that mask? Is it another bondage thing you told me to never ask about...? It's kind of creepy, you know.
THE HURRICANE: I am conducting important business here! Go away, and do not interrupt me! I'm busy here and you're ruining it!
With a huff, he shuts the door, the interruption barely a blip in his fervent storytelling. He returns to his chair, the comic book still in his hand, and continues.
THE HURRICANE: Now, where was I? Ah yes, the Hurricane's relentless pursuit of justice.
He adopts a contemplative expression, as though lost in the memory of his exploits.
THE HURRICANE: The Hurricane had even gone so far as to disguise himself as a janitor, complete with mop and bucket, to gain access to Seth's private training sessions. He witnessed Seth's secret techniques, his every strength and weakness laid bare. Hurricane knew exactly what to expect from Seth!
A brief pause allows the weight of his words to settle.
THE HURRICANE: On the eve of their clash, the Hurricane was ready. His mind was a steel trap of strategies, his body honed to perfection. The battle commenced in a squared ring, a place reeking of sweat and malice.
The light above flickers, adding a sense of urgency to his tale.
THE HURRICANE: Seth came at him, freaking and rolling, a whirlwind of limbs and fury. But the Hurricane was prepared. He met every move with the grace of a dancer and the strength of a titan. The clash was epic, a symphony of heroism and villainy, with The Hurricane emerging victorious, not just in body, but in spirit.
His voice grows softer, more introspective.
THE HURRICANE: Yet, it was not just the physical battle that defined this encounter. It was the Hurricane's realization of the darkness within this world, the lengths to which he must go to bring light. He pondered the morality of his subterfuge, the price of his mission.
A soft sigh escapes his lips as he glances at the comic book.
THE HURRICANE: "In tenebris lucem quaerens," The Hurricane murmured, then translated, looking directly at the camera. Seeking light in the darkness. Such is the life of a hero.
Another knock echoes through the room. Irritated, The Hurricane storms to the door once more, yanking it open.
STRANGER: Hey man, I know you busy, but I'm makin' some Mac n Cheese, want some?
THE HURRICANE: I don't need food! I need peace and quiet! I am in the midst of a tale that is most grand! Away with you!
He shuts the door with finality and returns to his chair, the interruption seemingly fueling his fervor.
THE HURRICANE: The Hurricane's clash with Seth was but the first step. He knew that greater challenges lay ahead, each more formidable than the last. But with each victory, he moved closer to his ultimate goal - - the dismantling of the crime-driven wrestling company from within.
He closes the comic book with a dramatic snap, his eyes gleaming with determination.
THE HURRICANE: How this chapter ends, dear WWE Universe, you shall discover tonight! The Hurricane shall stand tall in the WWE RAW ring, justice in his heart and valor in his veins!
With a heroic flourish, he stands, his cape swirling around him as he steps into the shadows, the light bulb swinging behind him.
THE HURRICANE: Prepare yourselves, for the Hurricane's wrath is imminent!
And with that, he disappears into the darkness, the promise of justice lingering in the air.
We cut to the backstage area where Austin Theory is seen standing outside of Stephanie McMahon’s office. He lets out a long exhale and reaches his hand up, knocking on her door. She calls out from inside for whoever it is to come in and he opens the door. He closes it behind him as Stephanie greets him with a grin.
STEPHANIE MCMAHON: Austin Theory. Good to see you. Looking forward to your match with Jay White tonight. What can I help you with?
AUSTIN THEORY: Well, uh…it’s that match I was kind of wanting to talk to you about.
STEPHANIE MCMAHON: Alright.
AUSTIN THEORY: I just noticed that of all the Money in the Bank participants from last week, Jay and I are the only two booked in a match this week.
STEPHANIE MCMAHON: Well, technically Britt Baker is also booked for a match tonight.
AUSTIN THEORY: Right, I didn’t mean to forget her.
STEPHANIE MCMAHON: All good. I have to be honest though, I’m not quite sure where this is coming from.
AUSTIN THEORY: I’m not trying to complain or say I don’t appreciate a match. Especially a match of this caliber against an opponent like Jay. I’m just still really struggling from last week’s match, you know?
Stephanie looks visibly confused by this conversation.
STEPHANIE MCMAHON: Well…you’re the one who requested the match.
Now it’s Theory who looks confused.
AUSTIN THEORY: What?
STEPHANIE MCMAHON: You requested the match.
AUSTIN THEORY: No, I didn’t.
STEPHANIE MCMAHON: I’ve got the email right here on my phone.
She scrolls through some stuff on her phone, unlocking it and showing Theory what she received.
AUSTIN THEORY: What the hell?
STEPHANIE MCMAHON: An email from you asking to be booked in a match this week on Monday Night RAW.
AUSTIN THEORY: I don’t remember sending this at all.
Stephanie studies Theory’s reaction to all of this for a second or two before responding.
STEPHANIE MCMAHON: Well, it’s hard to argue what we see with our own eyes. It is a little strange though that you don’t remember sending it.
AUSTIN THEORY: Yeah, I feel like I would have remembered doing that.
STEPHANIE MCMAHON: You didn’t take any pills or anything or get a little crazy one night this last week, did you?
AUSTIN THEORY: No, never. I, uh, I don’t do that stuff. Not anymore.
STEPHANIE MCMAHON: Huh…
There’s a silence between the two of them now as they’re both more confused than when the conversation started.
AUSTIN THEORY: Okay, well…um…
STEPHANIE MCMAHON: Austin, I appreciate you coming in here. I understand where you’re coming from, but the match was put together because I thought you requested it. It was no situation I was trying to put you in or punishment or anything like that. In fact, I was looking at this main event tonight to see which one of you two might take the next step in your WWE career.
Theory nods and lets out an audible exhale.
AUSTIN THEORY: Can’t argue with that.
STEPHANIE MCMAHON: Best of luck to you tonight and if you figure out what happened with the whole email thing. Let me know.
AUSTIN THEORY: Will do. Thank you, Stephanie. Keep an eye out tonight. You’re going to see who the next logical challenger for the world title is!
STEPHANIE MCMAHON: I hope so.
Theory turns and walks out, still a little confused about the miscommunication this week but determined to show Stephanie and the world what he’s capable of tonight as the cameras go back to ringside.
MICHAEL COLE: It sounds like Austin Theory and the EVPs might have had a wilder weekend than he thought!
WADE BARRETT: Sometimes, a weekend out with the boys is exactly what you need to forget a hard-fought loss. Maybe you shouldn’t email your boss, though…
MICHAEL COLE: Well speaking of wanting to forget, I think Brody King might be looking to forget what happened two weeks ago on RAW, when he lost his WWE debut match to the returning Seth “Freakin’” Rollins. King will be looking to gain a bit of momentum here tonight against the debuting Adam Cole!
”Divine Injustice” by God’s Hate begins to thrum through the stadium’s speakers, and the crowd hails the stage with boos as Brody King emerges from backstage looking more than a little menacing with the red bandana pulled up over his nose. He steps to the top of the ramp and lets out an animalistic roar that causes the bandana to slip down.
SAMANTHA IRVIN: The following contest is scheduled for one fall! Making his way to the ring…Big Bad Brooodyyy Kiiing!
MICHAEL COLE: Brody King looks like an old west bandit!
WADE BARRETT: It’s not a train he’s planning to rob, Cole. He’s stealing his opponent’s thunder here tonight!
Brody King walks slowly down the ramp, completely ignoring the crowd around him as he climbs the ramp stairs. He steps over the rope, unties the bandana, and throws back his hood. He watches the lights go down, and the infamous ”SHOCK THE SYSTEM!” sounds through the arena. Adam Cole steps out with his arms wide and, like Brody King, gets his share of the crowd’s displeasure, but he doesn’t seem to notice as he stands at the top of the ramp with his arms out wide.
SAMANTHA IRVIN: And his opponent, representing The Undisputed Era, The Star of the Show, Adam Coooooole!
MICHAEL COLE: Adam Cole isn’t looking very intimidated by his opponent’s brutal track record!
WADE BARRETT: Not at all. Even David brought down Goliath with nothing but a sling. Brody King might have the size advantage, but I’m not too sure I’d count Cole out just yet, especially when he’s got a chance to make a statement on the main roster.
Cole strides confidently down the ramp, his gaze focused squarely on Brody King in the ring. He takes the ring steps two at a time but stays on the ring apron, stepping around the outside for his “Adam Cole bay-bay!” chant. He gets into position and he’s getting ready, his arms holding onto the ropes…Brody King’s moving! King grabs him bodily and suplexes him into the ring! Cole crashes and burns in the center of the ring! King beats his chest violently while the ref checks on Cole. Cole nods that he’s okay to continue, and he’s getting on his feet as the ref rings for the bell.
SINGLES MATCH
Cole looks a little dazed by the attack as he drags himself to his feet, but he’s still got some of his instincts. Brody King charges forward with his arm stretched out in a clothesline that would have knocked his head off if it had hit. Fortunately for Cole, he gets the cobwebs out just in time and ducks it, running forward to rebound off the ropes before coming back, catching Brody in the spine with a jumping backstabber that drives him into the ropes! Brody grunts in pain as the two-hundred-pound Florida native wraps an arm around King’s neck and drags him down with him, but King manages to keep hold of the ropes!
MICHAEL COLE: I’m not sure this is where Adam Cole wants to be, he’s riding the tiger!
WADE BARRETT: It’s not a question of where he gets off, but where he lands!
Cole’s trying to lock in some kind of sleeper hold, but Brody’s size makes it hard for him to get a solid grip. The Big Bad man reaches back to swing at Cole, but his smaller opponent manages to move just out of the way of each hit, only taking a few clips but keeping his grip. It looks like Brody’s starting to stagger a little now, and he looks around frantically, before turning and driving Cole spine-first into the corner post! Again! Cole arches in pain and is forced to release his grip, collapsing to the mat and clutching at his back.
MICHAEL COLE: That slam into the corner post didn't look good for Cole!
WADE BARRETT: King is a monster and he's looking to not only beat his opponent but end him!
Brody’s down on one knee and in a perfect position for Cole, but the Star of the Show seems to have fallen out of the sky. He slowly pushes himself up to his hands and knees, but Brody’s back up first. He delivers a boot to Cole’s midsection that physically rolls the smaller man over onto his back. Brody mounts his fallen opponent and starts delivering right hands; Cole tries to block but the sheer power of Brody King is hard to contend with!
MICHAEL COLE: Cole is doing the best that he can to stay alive in this one!
WADE BARRETT: I'm not sure it's going to be enough though, Cole!
The ref grabs Brody’s shoulder and tried to tell him he’s going to be disqualified, but Brody shoves him back and delivers another blow. The ref moves in again, and this time the raging King has had enough. He rises off Cole and stalks after the ref, shouting at him to “never touch me again!” The ref nods quickly, fear in his eyes. Suddenly, the official’s eyes widen even further, and he moves out of the way. Brody King spins, just in time to eat a cutter from Adam Cole out of nowhere!
MICHAEL COLE: Brody King is down!
WADE BARRETT: Yeah, but Adam Cole landed on that injured back! Can he capitalize in time?!
Cole clutches at his back as he rolls to his stomach, and he looks exasperated as Brody King already begins to stir. The two men start to rise, each in a race against the other to see who gets up first. Brody King gets to one knee…and Cole is up! He takes a step back, and before King can get his other knee under him…LAST SHOT! Brody King slumps back, and Cole goes for the cover! 1…2…3! Adam Cole gets the victory!

SAMANTHA IRVIN: Here is your winner…ADAAAM COOOLE!
MICHAEL COLE: We might have just witnessed a robbery here tonight, Wade!
WADE BARRETT: I told you that size doesn't always matter when it comes to professional wrestling. Sure, it helps being able to pick your opponent up, but being able to get up and rebound like that is hard to beat!
Michael Cole stands in the middle of the ring before a divided crowd, happy that the monster Brody King got laid out, but upset that it had to be Adam Cole. The official, after taking a concerned look at the still-prone Brody, throws Cole’s hand up in celebration. After a moment he leaves to check on Brody King as he begins to stir, and leaves Cole to slide out of the ramp and walk stiffly back up the ramp, his hand on his lower back.
MICHAEL COLE: Partner, how great is it that we’re getting to see so many big names from the past and present all together in this new era? It seems like every week the stakes get raised that much more.
WADE BARRETT: I have to agree with you there, Cole. As overused as your platitudes are, it’s true that you never know what’s going to happen.
MICHAEL COLE: That’s more true than ever before! But next we’re about to find out what happens when S - -
His transition is cut off mid-sentence as ‘The Next Voyage’ by CFO$ hits to a massive pop from the WWE Universe. It’s a matter of mere seconds before KAIRI emerges onto the entrance stage alone for the first time since returning to WWE in June. Even in just a leather jacket, her brand new t-shirt and jeans, the WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion looks ready for a fight. She stops at the top of the ramp to look out over the Albuquerque crowd deep in thought. After giving the title belt around her waist a tug, KAIRI makes her way down to the ring.
There’s a cold, burning anger in her eyes as she approaches the ring steps. No doubt the events of Heat the previous night are still loud and clear in her mind. Yet despite this she does stop to acknowledge some fans at ringside. A short interaction with a few younger fans brings a brief smile to her face before she makes her way into the ring. She’s got a mic in hand and pauses as the crowd once again sings along with her theme, which gives way to a few ‘Cap-tain Kai-ri!’ chants. For a moment the smile threatens to break through her serious exterior, but KAIRI just manages to stay focused. As her music fades KAIRI’s all business again.
KAIRI: The moment I managed to knock Shotzi to the floor and end six years of misery and self-doubt, I knew I had a target on my back. Not just from every other woman who stepped through those ropes that night only to go over the top to the floor. Most of that locker room - the most talented in the world - - sees me with the Women’s Intercontinental Championship and start to wonder if they’ve got what it takes to be the third one to hold it. I knew that when I became a champion things would get more dangerous. I accepted it. And as your Captain, as your champion, I will never back down from any challenger.
KAIRI’s words are forceful, her gaze determined as she sets the stage. There’s also a hint of sadness in her tone that’s hard to place at first.
KAIRI: I hoped that I’d be sharing the road to my first SummerSlam as champion with someone I could trust. When everyone’s got their eye on your prize, it helps to have someone at your side who can be the eyes on the back of your head. It seems like someone else realized that and decided to attack me from the shadows. I’ve run over the actions of last night over and over again and that’s the explanation I keep coming back to. Someone thinks that hurting Kyona is going to get to me. Well - - it has. But not the way they probably wanted. I’m not scared, I’m furious.
This gets a small cheer from the crowd while Captain KAIRI glares daggers at the entrance ramp.
KAIRI: Kyona is my friend, maybe my best friend. When I felt completely alone here, it was her that made me believe in myself and helped me be honest about my situation. I might not be champion without her. She was looking forward to making a return to the ring, but who knows if that’s going to happen now. We’re left with all kinds of questions. The one that matters the most to me is what you’re all wondering. Who did this? Who would attack my best friend to get at me?
KAIRI’s chest rises and falls in a deep breath as she prepares to continue on alone.
KAIRI: That’s what I’m going to figure out. If they want this championship, all they had to do was ask for a shot. Now that they’ve assaulted Kyona, they’ve made this personal. Whoever it was, they’re about to find out what happens when the Main Event Mariner has a vendetta against them. No quarter given. Whatever it takes, I’m going to return the favor to them.
The WWE Universe begins to buzz in nervous anticipation as KAIRI seems ready to name a suspect after all. Before she can, “Teenage Nosferatu Pussy” by Rob Zombie hits to boos from the crowd. KAIRI’s eyes narrow as she too looks to the stage as Jamie Hayter emerges from the back. The Most Powerful Woman in Pro Wrestling flexes her arms before marching down to the ring and the tension in Tingley Stadium rises exponentially.
MICHAEL COLE: As the saying goes, business just picked up! Jamie Hayter’s been an absolute force since joining WWE a few months ago. But what business does she have out here right now?
WADE BARRETT: These two crossed paths at Money in the Bank, Cole. It was clear then and it’s clear now that Jamie Hayter’s still focused on claiming the Women’s Intercontinental Championship for herself. For her nothing else matters, not even what happened to KAIRI’s manager.
With zero fanfare Jamie rushes up the ring steps and enters the ring herself. There’s a big fight feel building up as the two women stare each other down. Boos for Jamie mingle with ‘Cap-tain Kai-ri’ chants and the champion steps forward, muscles tensed and ready to strike. Jamie sees that determination and smiles back. Her music then fades out and now it’s Jamie who takes the floor.
JAMIE HAYTER: Hi champ.
KAIRI: Jamie.
JAMIE HAYTER: Let me offer my condolences for what happened to Kyona last night. Such a terrible thing that happened, and I’m really sorry you’re having to deal with it. But as much as that sucks, it doesn’t change the fact that you have something that belongs to me. Before that battle royal I was cheated out of that belt by Becky Lynch. As happy as I am for you, KAIRI, the real Women’s Intercontinental Champion is ME.
Her eyes fall to the belt around KAIRI’s waist, determination filling every last syllable. KAIRI’s smile falls firmly into a threatening sneer.
KAIRI: Jamie, this really isn’t the time. Now if you know anything about what happened to Kyona - -
Jamie shakes her head violently the moment those words come out of the champion’s mouth.
JAMIE HAYTER: I don’t know a damn thing other than whoever pulled that’s a coward. When I want something, I’m very direct. You know what I want, KAIRI.
KAIRI’s hand falls to the belt around her waist as she nods in response.
KAIRI: I know exactly what you want. If we fight, I’ll give you everything you need - - except for this belt. I didn’t go to war with five of the best wrestlers in the world just to let someone else take it away in my first defense. Even against The Most Powerful Woman in the World, it’s not me that’s going to blink first. No matter what, even if I’ve got no one I can trust but myself.
Jamie grins back as KAIRI’s passions come out in full force and the tension nears a boiling point. Jamie works a kink out of her neck. KAIRI starts to clench her fist as if about to unleash her Cutlass. Just as it looks like they’re not going to wait until SummerSlam, things take another unexpected turn.
Both women’s attention are immediately drawn to the entrance stage as the camera switches to a shot of the entryway. Sure enough, IYO SKY bursts through the curtain to a big pop from the crowd. Their reaction brings a satisfied grin to the Genius of the Sky’s face as she takes her time getting down to the ring.
MICHAEL COLE: OH MY!! IYO SKY is back! For the first time in the new era, the Genius of the Sky has returned to RAW!
WADE BARRETT: It’s about time she got back to doing what she does best - - taking whatever she wants by whatever means necessary.
MICHAEL COLE: She doesn’t look like she’s here to fight, and we know that she’s very close to KAIRI.
WADE BARRETT: That’s just it, she’s so dangerous that the moment she looks like she’s not a threat is the moment she makes you pay.
IYO circles the ring to collect a third mic, then shoots up the ring steps and hops through the ropes. She makes the ‘I’m watching you’ gesture to Jamie before stepping right between the two. KAIRI raises an eyebrow at this action, but IYO’s smile seems to be persuasive enough to ease her nerves. Chants for IYO break out as well, matching those for KAIRI in the moment.
IYO SKY: Well, well, well. Why am I not surprised it’s come to this huh? KAIRI finally rediscovers her true strength - - with MY help, by the way - - and now someone’s already coming at her from a different angle. I get it. I know KAIRI better than anyone and I know that when she’s like this there aren’t many people who can outwrestle her, no matter how powerful they say they are.
IYO shoots a glare over at Jamie, making the accusation which KAIRI didn’t seem ready to. Jamie just shrugs in response as if this all has nothing to do with her.
IYO SKY: KAIRI, I love you but...let’s be real. The woman you’re standing in the ring with is the kind of woman who will tell you what you want to hear. She’ll act all honorable but then sneak around behind you and slam a chair into your back. Have you forgotten how far she went when it was Becky Lynch holding that belt? And do you honestly think she’s not going to do EXACTLY the same things to get it from you?
This gets a shocked reaction from the crowd, who are all on the edge of their seats by this point. The more IYO talks the more KAIRI starts to nod along as it all seems to make perfect sense. Jamie shoots a ‘are you serious?’ look to KAIRI, making a point not to engage with IYO whatsoever. Her focus remains on the champion and, more importantly, the Women’s Intercontinental Championship.
IYO SKY: KAIRI, you’re right. Everyone in the back’s aiming for the target on your back. You need someone you can trust! You told me that you trusted me before you won that belt. If you still feel that way, I’ve got your back.
KAIRI looks to IYO, then to Jamie, then to her title and back to IYO.
KAIRI: Maybe you’re right. And I do still feel that way. No matter what else has happened, you’ve always been there for me.
She and IYO nod to each other as the crowd cheers the apparent Sky Pirates reunion. KAIRI then looks to Jamie with all the pent-up fury and anger at what happened to Kyona burning in her eyes. Jamie glares at both women and tenses her muscles a bit as thoughts of violence dance through her head. However, she shakes her head and steps back rather than engage with them.
JAMIE HAYTER Believe whatever you want, KAIRI. But believe this: at SummerSlam, I’m coming to take what’s mine.
She drops her mic and leaves the ring to a cascade of boos from the crowd. KAIRI watches her every step of the way, suspicious of an attack if she dares turn her back. When Jamie’s at the top of the ramp KAIRI removes the belt and lifts it up to remind her who’s champion.
KAIRI: You want this? Come and take it. But at SummerSlam, your power means nothing. I’m going to cut you down and continue my voyage as Women’s Intercontinental Champion!
The Captain drops her mic and thrusts the belt over the top rope to emphasize her point. “The Next Voyage” hits again to cheers and chants from the WWE Universe while KAIRI continues to seethe at her first challenger. IYO can be seen nodding in satisfaction at her friend’s reaction, not acknowledging the chants of her name that continue to rise from the crowd. Both women stand tall in the ring as the cameras cut to the backstage area.
Backstage, Shotzi Blackheart walks towards an awaiting Saraya to a huge pop from the crowd. The two embrace with a hug before Shotzi takes a step back.
SHOTZI BLACKHEART: Hey! I just wanted to say thank you for the assist at Money in the Bank. I know I had no place out there really, but I had to make sure the Unholy Union didn't get away with cheating their way to victory. That would have been an absolute travesty.
SARAYA: It was nothing. I just did what I had to do and there was no way I was going to sit back and let it happen. I can't say I saw my debut going that way necessarily but hey, you can't argue with results!
Shotzi releases a quiet laugh.
SHOTZI BLACKHEART: Well, I really appreciate it and hey, best of luck around here. You'll fit right in.
Shotzi flashes a smile in her direction before turning to walk away but Saraya calls her back.
SARAYA: Y'know, we really made a strong team out there, don't you think?
Shotzi thinks that over for a moment and lightly nods her head.
SHOTZI BLACKHEART: Yeah, I guess we did.
SARAYA: Who knows? Maybe we can work together again some time? It seems you could do with a little back-up against the Unholy Union, with the way things are going. Not that you can't handle yourself, but you know...
SHOTZI BLACKHEART: Look, I appreciate the offer, but I've said since day one that I want to do this for myself. I am not going to drag anybody into this. It's my fight to fight, nobody else's.
SARAYA: Just remember that the help is here if you need it.
Shotzi nods, acknowledging that.
SHOTZI BLACKHEART: Thanks Saraya, I'll keep that in mind but don't worry about me, I've got this! See you around!
She offers Saraya a sincere smile but then turns on her heel and wanders off as the cameras go back to ringside.
MICHAEL COLE: Are we seeing a new tag team forming between Saraya and Shotzi, Wade?
WADE BARRETT: It seems as if all of the women are searching for someone to have their backs. We could be looking at some real trouble for any lady caught on her own!
MICHAEL COLE: Seth could be in some real trouble coming up when he faces The Hurricane! He’s looking for justice, and he said he's going to start with Seth Rollins!
BURN IT DOOOOOWN!
The crowd roars as “The Second Coming” by def rebel plays through the speakers. Spotlights sway and dance over the audience as the camera pans across them, before focusing on the man himself. Seth Rollins emerges, looking a little awed at the crowd’s response. He pauses at the top of the ramp, adjusts the white-and-black fur collar around his neck, listening to the crowd as they ‘Wooooooah-Oooooh-OOOOOH-Oooh’ along with his music.
SAMANTHA IRVIN: The following contest is scheduled for one fall! Making his way to the ring Seth Freakin’ Rolllllliiins!
MICHAEL COLE: Wooooah! Ooooh! OOOOOH Ooooh!
WADE BARRETT: Not you too, Cole! Let’s try to be professional here!
“Eye of The Hurricane” blares over the P/A system now as The Hurricane practically glides out to the top of the stage holding his cape as he poses with his hands on his hips for the crowd. The crowd are absolutely eating up his appearance as they cheer for the superhero of the WWE! A determined and serious expression is on his face as he makes his way to the ring.
SAMANTHA IRVIN: And his opponent making his way to the ring, The Huuurricaaane!
MICHAEL COLE: It’s been a long time since we’ve had a proper superhero in the WWE, and the WWE Universe is absolutely loving it!
WADE BARRETT: He’d just better hope that his “superpowers” don’t let him down!
As The Hurricane steps through the ropes, he makes sure that Rollins isn’t trying any funny business before he steps up on the turnbuckle and poses for the adoring fans in attendance once again. Hopping down to the mat and removing his cape as he hangs it up in the turnbuckle corner closest to him and getting ready to square off with Seth Rollins.

Rollins tries to help himself up using the ropes but The Hurricane charges at him smashing him into the corner with a shoulder block!
MICHAEL COLE: The Hurricane coming out aggressive in the early goings here!
WADE BARRETT: You have to imagine that Triple H is watching this one with interest. He’s been keeping an eye on Rollins and he’s looking to see if he can keep this roll he’s on going!
Hurricane doesn’t stop there, however, as he smashes Rollins in the corner with several hard jabs and then a series of shoulder thrusts before being warned by the official for his actions. Hurricane backs away from the corner for a moment as Rollins holds his ribs, already in a lot of pain. Hurricane though does not ease up as he lifts Seth Rollins into the air and drops him with a Northern Lights suplex! Hurricane makes the first cover of the match, 1…2…Rollins kicks out! Hurricane remains stoic as Rollins struggles on the mat. Meanwhile, The Hurricane poses for the fans to start getting them hyped up. Hurricane grabs hold of Rollins lifting him above his head as he locks him in a Canadian rack as he carries on attacking the mid-section. MICHAEL COLE: The snap on the powerslam surely did some extra damage to Rollins!
WADE BARRETT: He’s going to be in some real pain after this one!
Rollins makes his way to his feet in the corner of the ring looking to help himself up but gets crushed by a wicked clothesline. Hurricane grabs hold of him and nails a snap suplex! Hurricane makes the cover, 1…2…Rollins kicks out! Hurricane looks at Rollins down on the mat and starts pounding him with numerous punches. Rollins allows himself some breathing room and follows up with the ripcord knee staggering Hurricane. MICHAEL COLE: Perhaps we’re seeing the shift in power here, Wade!
WADE BARRETT: Rollins certainly looks like he’s tired of taking damage!

SETH FREAKIN’ ROLLINS
12:49 via PINFALL
SAMANTHA IRVIN: HERE IS YOUR WINNER, SETH FREEEAKIN’ ROLLLLLLINS!
MICHAEL COLE: The Hurricane certainly didn’t disappoint these fans tonight, he brought everything he had against Rollins, but it just wasn’t enough tonight!
WADE BARRETT: It’s been quite some time since he last got into the ring, even I have to admit that I’m impressed with the work he did here tonight! Rollins picks up the victory however, and it looks like his roll of victories continues!
”The Second Coming” plays as Seth conducts the crowds singing now. The Hurricane slowly rolls out of the ring as he’s helped to the back by the official. Seth holds onto his ribs as he gets a little too enthusiastic and is forced to nurse his injury a bit as he grimaces in pain now. The crowd is still singing for him as he grins and only uses one hand to help conduct them now and this time, he’s very careful with his motions as he gingerly exits the ring and gets down to the floor, slowly making his way up to the back as the cameras fade out to commercial.
Tune in next week as the road to SummerSlam continues!
