Raised in New Jersey, she grew up idolizing wrestling icons like Bob Backlund, Jimmy Snuka, and Roddy Piper, her passion for the sport ignited at a young age. After travelling and graduating from the prestigious New York University Stern School of Business, Dawn Marie embarked on a successful career in real estate, rising to the position of Director of International Real Estate at a consultancy firm in Manhattan. However, fate had other plans in store for her. A chance encounter with an ex-boyfriend, whose dreams of professional football had materialized with the Chicago Bears, reignited Dawn Marie's dormant aspirations for a career in entertainment. Seizing the opportunity for reinvention, she bid farewell to the corporate world and ventured into the realm of modeling and acting.

But it was an encounter with Jonathan Gold, a talent agent and wrestling promoter, that would alter the course of her destiny. During a signing event for modeling posters, Dawn Marie casually remarked about her interest in wrestling, a jest that Gold took seriously. Soon after, she found herself thrust into the world of professional wrestling, managing legend Tony Atlas in a match against Jimmy Snuka that marked her debut in the independent circuit. Her tenure on the northeastern independent circuit proved to be a formative period for Dawn Marie, as she honed her craft alongside seasoned veterans and rising stars alike. Her talents caught the eye of ECW luminary Buh Buh Ray Dudley, leading to a fateful meeting with ECW promoter Paul Heyman.
